Its involved lots of Azam Ali, an arabic vocalist from Vas (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fxrLIZpuvo)and Niyaz (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QyJgr2nuqM). I find it really peaceful. Metallica's Cure
The best singer in Metal? I agree he's part of the top five, but within the genre's top singers it's really close. Corey Taylor is unbelievable , so are Tomi Joutsen (Amorphis) Matthem K. Heafy (Trivium), Christian Machado (Ill Nino), the good old Jesse David Leech (former Killswitch Engage) and and and... Since I saw him live, Philip Labonte (All that Remains) belongs to my toplist, too. What he did a week ago was just... far above human. :) That's why I'm listening to

BFMV kinda is emo though. The soft parts of their songs are ... iffy. I've only heard two of their songs so I can't say much, besides that they are mainstream, and totally not my type.

The truth is a pretty good album, but I prefer their newer stuff. Their old stuff is more metalcore/hardcore and I'm really not into that. I'm more of a melo death guy. Though, I don't have any of their new albums. I only know of their new stuff from the concert I saw. >:)
"The Truth" isn't that old... afaik, there is only one younger album- "Declaration". Haven't listened to it yet, though.. I probably should.:D
I started with New Metal, then continued with MeloDeath (Soilwork, In Flames ftw!) and finally included many other subgenres. The world of Metal is huge, colourful and tasty.:D
O.K., I'll continue on topic. A little Amorphis anyone?

what can i say, vocals are important to me. ive heard soo many bands that have great instrumentals, but the vocals just make me want to shoot myself. especially in metal bands within the last 10 years, it seems like the new fad is to get the crappiest singer possible.
to answer your question though, no im not a pessimist. im an optimist. ill give any band a listen hoping they will be good...i just end up dissapointed most of the time. i guess you can say im a bit jaded though.
edit - is shadows the guy from avenged sevenfold? if so, i still feel that way, and that band is a perfect example of what i was talking about. great instrumentals, crappy singer.

i have the "sounding the seventh trumpet" album. not sure how early that one is. a friend couldnt stop ranting about how awesome the band was so i picked up the cd to check them out. absolutely the WORST album i own.
Talk about great vocals, David Draiman anyone?
now this i can agree with.

I love this thread!
Friend of mine introduced me to Van Canto today. Interesting stuff.
Wishmaster (i think i like this better than the Nightwish version)
Fantastic clip, too

Especially when you consider that there are five vocalists and a drummer. That's it.

A bit of Iced Earth and Blind Guardian.... ahhh. Love Demons and Wizards. Not sure if I love them more than Iced Earth... Haha.
I'm always a little suspicious when it comes to female voices in metal music..
...athough some are really doing a good job.

van canto is pretty interesting. theyre good, but i would find it hard to take them seriously (and i cant tell if they take themselves seriously). seeing the guys making "metal faces" when singing the guitar is epically hilarious.

Katatonia "Without God"
Human birds watch the sky
Where dark formations sail
Infecting the area of God
Jhva elohim meth
I am God creator of life
I am God enchanter of death
Death - that now marks you
Life - that slowly pass away
Screams of fear, dismembering the wind
Helpless souls drowning in pain
But storms of dawn...
A dawn without God
My spirit filled with hate sets free
The force of the golden dawn
Without God
Entomb your fear
The spirit is free
Jhva elohim meth
Satan laughs
Jhva elohim meth
I raise my fist
To the sky
Swear the ancient oath of black
The lambs shall bleed
Eternally bleed
God is dead and shall forever be

UNSUN - Whispers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LapknbGS7Os&feature=related)
and Haktar made me look up Katatonia and I came up with this:
Katatonia - Dancing December (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhvYXU4uBhY&feature=related)
KATATONIA - Rainroom (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uMij4bNJR0&feature=related)

KATATONIA - Tonight´s Music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BjRmHMUWvQ&feature=related)
well since I've never heard these guys before and I'm reading that the lead singer is who formed Opeth? Guess I have some new music to research lol
edit/ ok I know after reading about it realize that the Opeth singer stepped in for 2 albums in the mid/late 90s...I actually think I prefer the regular singer of Katatonia better...though I did enjoy the Burden tune posted above quite a bit!
Love this thread, special thx for you all who post your interests!
Regards
Lol, UNSUN really surprised me. Pretty good music. :headbang: And that chick is hot.:D They deserve further research...
Yeah, and Katatonia are great musicians. Shame on me for forgetting to post something from them ...
From now on, I'll try to post stuff I believe no one else in the world (= in this community) knows. :D
Let's begin...
The Old Dead Tree- Out of Breath (Dark Metal from a French band :))

thx Kir4 , I'm always interested in new music...all I know is that I like what I like when I hear it lol And I have quite a large range of personal "likes" ;)
I have a feeling your "everyday" picks would include a lot of new stuff for me heh
Seeing you're in Germany, I'm a big fan of In Strict Confidence, I know they're not metal but I enjoy their sound and themes and such ;)
That was an interesting pick from France, but it didn't grab me for some reason.
But it did get me thinking of any French bands I might have and enjoy. The only one is a band that's been around since the early 80s and STILL putting out great albums!
It's not metal but perhaps you (and others) here might like it :)
Trisomie 21 - There's a strange way this morning? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdWOT_Ngjzk)
wow the Katatonia just keeps amazing me:

Very nice melody
This is one of best and most popular german rock group
I think Kir4 should know about them or maybe not
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPwGYdZlZYs
It took me some time to understand the genius behind "The Old Dead Tree".
When I heard ot for the first time, I was rather bored..:D
Never heard of "In Strict Confidence" before, but I'll grab some time to check them out. And I remembered a second French band for me to post, but that'll have to wait a little. Now, how about some German metalcore? :) You won't understand sh*t, even if you have some linguistic knowledge. (When I heard it for the first time, I didn't notice it's German...)
Here it comes:
Narziss- Und du verblasst (the top of the video shows album title, not song title)
(Narcissist - And you fade)
8703aEeHTXc
Interesting thing is, the lyrics look like a poem, even if translated into English language, and they're quite sophisticated. I like it. :D
Though they don't have many good songs. :(
@ Raven: OF COURSE I know the Scorpions. Is there anyone out there who doesn't? ;)

Lol, dude, I'm five yeas older than you. In fact, I was surprised that YOU know about the Scorpions... and it's you that didn't understand "The Old Dead Tree" is a band I've posted before.
@Roland: Checked out a few "In strict Confidence"-songs and realized I do know them, because Rammstein (no need to explain Rammstein :D) always cover "Stripped" on their liveshows. Pretty chillaxing music. Definitively something I want to hear as a soundtrack, either when playing "Residen Evil" or when reading a good Murakami-novel. :D
I don't think you live in the wrong country, though. Germany doesn't have that much great artists... assuming you're not a ringtone-junkie. :( But I'll make sure to include a few songs in my posts.)

"Dante's Inferno" is awesome! I knew Iced Earth by only two albums, "SWTWC" and ''Horror Show". Now that's a fine addition to my playlist.

Awesome song, awesome video!
...And for those not familiar with these guys, that is the bands real singer in there.
And a blast from the past! I loved this song back in high school, listening to it now, the vocals suck but the music kills... PS The drummer was 14 when they recorded this song!
<object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/NB6nGH9LFvg&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/NB6nGH9LFvg&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
