Man...

That song that they composed for this event is beautiful.

I enjoyed it quite a bit as well.
It began with a sense of somber rememberance and grew into a crescendo of hope for the future.

I could have done without the extended invocation. (yes I am an athiest)

But as I listen to President Obamas address I sincerely hope he can live up to the monolithic expectations that have been laid before him.

Likewise (though I'm an agnostic, not an atheist ;)). Though I won't begrudge him in choosing to emphasize his religion at a time like this.

But as I listen to President Obamas address I sincerely hope he can live up to the monolithic expectations that have been laid before him.
As do I. He definitely has a mountain to climb, but I have faith he'll be able to climb it.

What Obama is best at (thus far) it seems is in stirring up hope in people. And hope can be a powerful thing.

I "hope" he has the drive and vision and character he'll need to work on all that needs to be addressed in our nation and the areas of the world that concern us and our future.

He has inherited quite a burdensome list of issues and problems.

I wish him the very best in his endeavors.

Wow, Roland. :rockon:x 100.

I have a CD I made of all Red Ryder / Tom Cochrane stuff. I was in Canada during the heyday, and you're right - a great (and relatively unknown in the US) band. Symphony Sessions is great too...

Yeah - one of the best if not THE best April Wine song there, too.

Driver's Seat - thanks for reminding me - Limewiring right now - One-Hit Wonder time!

Etc., etc. Thanks, man.

Oh %@$#^?! - I forgot what I was going to say.

The Westminster Dog Show. :rockon:Dogs:rockon:

And if we're talking Robert Plant,

Shine It All Around (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QljN40DwVGU) From the Jools Holland UK TV show. Monumental.

29 Palms (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1d789nXHyrw) Another super-tuneful Plant song. But, whew - it's hard for me to see him looking that old. I grew up with Led Zepplin.

The Rollins Band - Low Self Opinion (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o28dyt7w3As)

Henry Rollins turns 48 tomorrow. He's the guy behind The Rollins Band, one of the most hard-core bands I know. Henry is a bad-a$$, too.

http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/3031/aaahenrytf5.jpg
Critic Steve Huey describes their music as "uncompromising, intense, cathartic fusions of hard rock (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_rock), funk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Funk), post-punk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-punk) noise (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noise_rock), and jazz (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jazz) experimentalism, with Rollins shouting angry, biting self-examinations and accusations over the grind."

His previous band was Black Flag, and there were some wild times.

Black Flag's change in musical style and appearance alienated many of their original fans, who focused their displeasure on Rollins by punching him in the mouth, stabbing him with pens or scratching him with their nails, among other methods. He often fought back, dragging audience members on stage and assaulting them. Rollins became increasingly alienated from the audience; in his tour diary, Rollins wrote "When they spit at me, when they grab at me, they aren't hurting me. When I push out and mangle the flesh of another, it's falling so short of what I really want to do to them."

"Liar" another good one from The Rollins Band (if you like that kind of stuff) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBeRmjDrxXM)

Oomph! - Gott ist ein popstar (God is a popstar)

I like the sound of this band a lot. This song is actually not right in their style, this one is actually... more of a pop song than an NDH. But I still like it. And although this band has a few very hardcore videos, such as the one for "Beim erstem Mal tut's immer weh" or "Auf Kurs" (don't watch them if you hate even the idea of torture; I know I hate it and won't watch those videos again... the songs in audio only from now on :)), this song which I've linked to is their most controversial. Germany is probably one of the very few Western European countries which can still be called a Christian country, so a song which, according to the band, aims to show the hypocrisy of many religious people, is actually considered more worthy of negative criticism by the Germans.

Amazing voice, a new find for me...Thanks a lot for sharing Gene :)

Reminds me a bit of Nightwish with the orchestral arrangements and powerful vocals with a euro/gothic edge....good stuff!

 Roland, it indeed should remind you of Nightwish - she used to be the lead singer (as well as co-founder), prior to departing and being replaced by Anette Olzon.

Roger on the Hump Day, Roland. Here, it's also "Chicken Wing Night" at a local tavern, so in 5 hours I'll be on a mission....

Concrete Blonde - Ghost of a Texas Ladies Man (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69BozyMnVSg)

I reached to turn out the light
He wouldn't let me get near it
He seemed so glad to see a woman in the flesh
And I really liked his spirit
"You don't scare me, you don't scare me," I cried
To my ectoplasmic lover from the other side
He knew that I would understand
He was the ghost of a Texas ladies' man

The Payolas?

One of my very favorite bands from the 80s that no one remembers, except you lol

We really need to party someday! ;)

Think of the tunes, the fun, the debauchery lol

Here's one for you:

The Plimsouls - Oldest Story In The World (www.youtube.com/watch?v=wo9qQ9lAV5w)

:headbang: Ha! Yeah man, right on - Peter Case, used to be in The Nerves.

A Million Miles Away (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qei8FeFcjMk)

Roland, you oughtta get your *** over to West Virginia tonight - talk about "debauchery."

The chicken wing place is a real "round-buying" joint on Wednesdays...

A co-worker or two or five and I usually get there early, like 3:15 p.m. and get seats at the bar. At 4:00 the price of beer goes down to $1.25 each.

That's when they start serving wings, and people really arrive. So we'll each buy a round (I usually get everybody two at once) and then many of the people coming in the door get everybody a round.

I'm a fast drinker but I've had 8 or 9 beers stacked up in front of me....

They're cool about it, though - they'll let you trade in for cold ones if your beers have warmed up too much. I like it a little warmer anyway.

If there was any way in the world to be there I would man! Sounds like a great time ;)

I'll be there in spirit (spirit wings of a chicken?)

too funny, I would of never thought of that lol

I still prefer Johnny's (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmVAWKfJ4Go&feature=related) version though ;) (much better than Trent's imo ;))

Roland, for sure - I first heard Johnny's version driving to work one morning a few years ago.

Chills up my spine.
