Default DW question

Im yet to start the game, but i like to be very well informed before playing a RPG game.

I love DW characters in any game, and would like to know, in later lvls, end game, how often does DW goes off?
Im asking this bcz on max skill it says 22%.
There is other things that makes it increase?

Thanks.

For one, its synergies do increase it as the percentages are cumulative, so if you max the entire tree, you have about a 50% chance to use a DW skill.

For another if you wear +skills in all masteries (or at least Warfare) gear, you can increase the skills beyond their natural limit (up to +4 above it, then they really top out), so you can push the 50% even higher (I guess to about 75% but haven't done so yet as my meleers are not yet far enough along).

Dual wielding (the skill) is just one of the 2-handed moves you can perform.
Hew , crosscut and tumult are the others and their probabilities are independent.
Also your 1-handed attacks are spread between the left and right hand.

At max lvl you get 22%/10%/10%/10% chances to use those 4.
So there's
22% dual wield
10% hew
10% crosscut
10% tumult
24% left hand attack
24% right hand attack

At max lvl you get a 52% chance to use both hands , at max+4 it becomes a 75% chance.

Both weapons will do it late-game, but the spear is obviously far more powerful and will let you one-shot most things earlier in the game. Max out the skills that increase pierce damage, use the Tracker's Hood, Apollo's Will(s), and a socketed Green spear, blah blah blah...there's an obscene amount of info on this throughout the forums, so do a search to get all the info you will ever need.

About Dual-Wielding...the Warfare line also has ways to increase your attack speed, so that's going to make the two-handed attacks proc more frequently within a set amount of time. Have fun!

Spear brigands can potentially 1-shot legendary bosses , never mind mobs.
They are the supreme single-target damage dealers.
Truly bad at killing multiple opponents though , since they have no multi-target attacks.

Given proper gear any melee class can 1-shot as many targets as you can hit in a single move.
So moves like warwind , shield charge and phantom strike allow practically everyone to kill mobs faster than a spear brigand.

It's a theme really , going from casters all the way to spear brigands you sacrifice multi-target capabilities for single target dmg.
Since monsters usually come in small groups , the strongest approach is somewhere in the middle.

Spear Brigands aren't very awesome at killing a group in one attack, but they do have many tools for coping with groups of enemies. Traps, Flash Powder, and the Nightshade/Mandrake/Flurry of Knives combo, for instance. And then there's Volley..

Volley with a spear doesn't hit multiple targets.
Actually it's pretty pointless for a spear brigand IMO , since everything dies after the first poke.

In any case , I was referring to killing speed against groups of mobs.
So I stand by what I've said , too many other classes can potentially 1-shot entire groups.
A spear brigand will never get there.

Of course getting there requires uber gear , but it's not like the spear brigands that 1-shot bosses are using greens and yellows.

Just something I've noticed with my brigand...TOTALLY off topic here, but Volley can hit multiple targets IF (and ONLY if) the first target dies. Then the rapid second and 3rd hit goes to a different target if you're holding down Shift.

AND...Dual Wield and the rest of the tree is definatly a good Group Killer.
Harbinger would be a good choice, or ... um... (Warfare/Spirit)...Can't remember the name dangit.
