Hi, Poinas. Can you please explain how to make a skill from scratch? Not just take another skill and edit it. Pretty please? ^^

So you have a basic idea of what your skill is going to be. Pick a skill from the game that works similarly. Import it. Opne it. Click view -> show template file.

Now right click on the right pane, new -> record. The open the created file and choose the template for it. Now you have a blank skill.

Choosing the correct template is very important. You can't create a buff with a projectile template for example.

I was wondering if you could give me some clues as to what I am doing wrong when trying to make a custom mastery.

My problem that I see is when I go into edit the skill tree on the male and female if I go to records\skills\stealth where I put in the custommastery.dbr and customskilltree.dbr it does not show up in there, when I browse in there editor. Its the same anytime I go to browse to put a skill location in. I works if I manually type in the link.

With the mod correct when I go to load it, will it say Main.map or World1.map?

also what database files are needed in the mod just those that are needed for the mastery or every file in the database?

Thank you for the help in advance and hope all is well.

Default Re: [Guide] How to Create a Custom Mastery

I am having the same problems that thejester was having with the missing icons/skills in the mastery pane. As well as I am not able to browse all things in the records as most of them are missing. I am either going crazy or the guide is extremely hard to follow for a beginner.

I also have a few questions that I am unclear on....

1. Its said several times to click "Database > Import" then browse to the file you need. But later it also says that you can click on the right pane and import that way as well. However, I noticed that when you click Database > Import, the file structure/directory is also imported. But when you right click on the right pane, just the file is imported. For example....

Database > Import - skillmastery.dbr will add the following files to the left side on the art manager....records, skills, *masteryname*.

Right click "import" just throws the dbr files in on the right side so now you don't have the folders (records/skills/masteryname/).

So when (if ever) should I use the right click import?

2. When adding my modified dbr files do they have the follow the same file structure/directory? For example, if I need to import xxxmastery.dbr do I need to make sure its located at records/skills/masteryname/ in my mod?

3. Like I stated earlier, when I hit "Database > Import..." and I browse the records folder, a lot of files are missing. Stealth isn't there in skills/stealth for example. Only 4 of the 8 that are supposed to be there are there.

Now I am assuming that is because of the additional files directory that I set up (the first part of the guide talks about setting up Build, Working, Tools and Additional files for the art manager). I've been banging my head over this for some time now and can't figure it out. I did the exact thing tuftyfella did (placed the records folder I extracted with TQVault in my database folder with Templates) and had the import error.

Would I be correct in assuming that I am pointing to the wrong place (In additional files) if I cant browse all the files with "database > import"?

4. If I can't Database > Import the files that I need but I can right click import them, could I just create the file structure/directories first and then add the files where they need to be? (Right click on my mods folder in database and hit create directory, give it a name...etc)?

Default Re: [Guide] How to Create a Custom Mastery

I finally managed to get it working. Was never able to get Database > Import working so instead I just Copy/Pasted from the AllDatabaseStorage mod into mine by using windows explorer. After previous attempts of creating the directories in art manager and failing....using windows explorer worked.

Also, doing it this way the only way it worked was to import everything in the folders. For example, the guide says to import records/skills/stealth/stealthmastery.dbr as well as stealthskilltree.dbr (along with your custom spells). Doing that failed, I had to manually copy/paste the entire record/skills/stealth folder from the AllDatabaseStorage folder into my mod (at *modname*/records/skills/).
