Hey just a note on the steam problems. When you use the defiler menu to run the game it works fine for TQ, the error only occurs when you try to start IT. Also i have the DVD for IT but lost my original TQ disc which is why i bought it on steam. If i put that in and click play from the launch menu that pops up i get the same error as when defiler tries to launch it.

Ohhh duh, that could be it...the level difference between you and what you're killing is probably too great. (I haven't played in ages, sorry, lol.)

Just a small note, I think when I get to revamping the Defiler.NET I'm going to remove it's registry aspects.

This means that when you load the Defiler the first time you will be prompted to select the game's directories and versions right off the bat before you even get into the Defiler. This should solve alot of the issues with people having problems with it not currently detecting the game versions and directories and such.

It will create a bit of prep time, but rather than dealing with having to have the proper privileges to access the registry I think it will be easier and more intuitive to do it that way.

Plus you'll be able to simply copy the settings file over when using another computer rather than losing your settings everything you install/reinstall.

Feel free to comment! (Or leave other suggestions for changes/improvements, no matter how drastic they may seem like this one.)

Hi,

I have found out that it is really the Level difference (31 levels I think) between the monsters and your character! So my characters still work!

On a side note, the other biggest problem I see with those trying to get the Defiler running is the absence of the DLL file for the tab control and msinet (news/latest version). I'll be looking into these to find alternative ways of doing them (probably a smaller chance of redoing the tab control, it would take ALOT of work at this point), but I'd like to do away with them if possible so that there shouldn't be any issues left except Vista preventing the Defiler from modifying DLL files for mods, which more descriptive error messages may help fix.

Was able to finish the game a year ago and then stopped playing it. Decided to install the game again yesterday. Was able to backup the savedata files but when I tried to paste it on the new folder, my characters is not on the list. It wont show up my characters anymore. I was able to backup the whole savedate folder, but its still not working. How can I use my old characters again? Was abe to use TQDefiler and my old character loads there but still not in the character selection screen. Help please!

I'm assuming you have Titan Quest without the expansion? If so, follow these steps:

1)Run TQ, stop when you get to the main screen, do NOT click any of the menus!!
2)Press alt+tab, then run the Defiler (v3.4.2 preferably).
3)Press 'Patch Game'. Then close the Defiler and go back into the game and load each character into the game to resave them with the game's key so they'll show up next time.

I think I jumped the gun a bit on this. The only version really with DLL issues is the VB6 version, which once the Defiler.NET is complete will be obsolete and unsupported anyway. The same goes for the registry issues, which I was having trouble with in my .NET version because of VS2008 Pro, once I set it for running on 32-bit everything worked normally again, so it was just a fluke. The latter part about Vista and the DLL files I need to work on though.

EDIT: I've made a few fixes and I'm just starting on adding the other mods, this weekend I should hopefully get alot more done and have the other mods up and running.
