Majestic Chests that Disappear

Hmmm.
I think everyone has different issues but the same problem of disappearing chests. I play SP only and have never MP's. Since defeating Typhon, I haven't touched a rebirth fountain. But I have had chests disappear. I have gone off and killed bosses with Typhon runs, Mantocore and the Hydra so maybe that is 'my' cause. I'll have to finally reset my chests a pay a bit more attention.

OK - I copied all the files into a temp folder (the backup, TQ backup and Map folders), entered a game and ran around a bit, and then copied the files back.

It seems that something went wrong. Athough the chests are back, all the maps are blacked out and all my quests have been reset. This means that when I go back to these areas, I get all the quest rewards again and I really don't want that.

Anyone know what I did wrong?

from what I understand (not much) The map and quest (experience portions) is linked to the file called "map" and the quests I am a little less clear on. Since the Skills portion of the quest rewards is linked to with Quest.myw or QuestToken.myw I would assume QuestToken.myw but no guarentees there. Did you make sure you grabbed all the files? (I know it seems like a dumb question but its worth an asking)

I guess it's just the .que files you need to move, not the .map ones.

This is a weird effect; sounds like it may be a bug as others have said. I just had this happen to me, and found this thread on a search.

I haven't tried moving the .que files or anything yet, but want to throw some information about my play situation out for comparison.

I am fairly new, and not of a powergaming mentality. I'm still on Normal, and didn't know about TQVault until after playing for a bit, then added it (maybe halfway through Greece?). I have no other mods. I have the TQVault monitor running in the background all the time (edited the shortcut to start the game to run TQVault instead) but the Vault itself is not open while playing. I use the original game EXE to play, no disk images etc. Also, the character in question has only been played SP, no MP.

On Normal, I've made it to China to the first rebirth after exiting the icecave that had the giant Yeti in it. I've been going through the game sequentially, and almost all rebirth fountains have been used when they self-activate when you walk past them for the first time. I've only manually reset my rebirth fountain maybe once (I think in Egypt.) Now that I've gotten past the icecave in China, I wanted to try farming a bit as some of my gear really sucks. So, I went back and went Parnassus->Gorgon Caves. The Gorgon majestic chest was gone. I then tried Sparta->Nessus, and his chest was there. Next, Megara->Polyphemus (chest still there) and finally Rhakotis->the big beetle (chest still there). I repeated these 4 sections a second time, and the chest situation was the same each time, so it looks like I may need to do try the trick mentioned earlier if I want to get the Gorgon chest back.

Anyway, hoping that by posting some details of another occurence, and by others doing the same, that perhaps some trends can be noticed.

Possibly. I feel like I'm cheating now. I'm getting extra XP and skills. I still want to get this character up to level 65 before the expansion. Maybe I'll try re-copying the maps files and see if that helps.

Hey all, just want to say thanks for the method to restore lost MCs.... I was farming the Scorpion King for a while (just a short while...) when I detoured to the Manticore cave. In epic (yeah, I'm a manticore virgin....). Killed that with ease, then proceeded back to Legendary Egypt. Did Scorpion king once, then went to clear the legendary Manticore (another story for another day)... opened his majestic chest....

And then I stopped playing. Later in the day when I was playing again, Scorpion King chests gone. But restored with quests intact using methods described in this thread. Thanks!

Just a question left: if I go clear out the Manticore's majestic chest again, will the Scorpion King chests disappear again? Has anyone done any testing?

I usually farm manticore and scorpion king and find no problems w/ MC. It's always there, as expected bone piles and ordinary chest got more uniques.

Well, I've only farmed for a couple of hours on Sunday and got a Shroud of Eirene from a large coffer and an Agamemnon's Death Mask from a majestic chest inside the MantiCave.

My experience so far is this: Majestic chests disappear after few times only if further rebirth fountain and majestic chest is "activated"
I mean if you start the game anew, go to Nessus and farm him - his chest will remain at the spot until you go on to Polyphemus (or further) and start farming him. After that Nessus chest disappears.
Polyphemus' chest disappears after "activating" Spider Queen's black chest, and so on...
The only chest that seems to be permanent for me is Alastor's chest.
