After studying this beast for awhile I noticed alot of the lag and framerate problems are coming from the sound system. Don't believe me?
Remove your \MilesRedist\ folder temporarily and play the game for bit. Notice how silky smooth it is? Makes me realize how much I HATE Miles Sound System! (In fairness I don't know how there version 7 is but version 6 sucks!) So... I did 8 hours of research and came up with the fact that THQ forgot to update their sound engine before releasing. The sound engine inside their game is 6.6c, now if they purchased the software developers kit from radgametools.com (which I am sure they did) they can easily get version 6.6g from them, it should be free of charge since its not a major upgrade. I took the liberty of assembling a few 6.6g Miles Sound System files from Dungeon Siege II and I packed them up in a zip for all of you, but unfortunately I can't add files in this forum, so if an admin wants to help you all I will up the file to him/her and he/she can host it for you. Otherwise you will need to dig out your copy of Dungeon Siege II and copy the files from the MSS folder. I replaced mss32.dll, mssmp3.asi, mssvoice.asi, mssdsp.flt, etc... with the latest fixed versions and walla! No more choppy choppy. The game runs smoother and the sound no longer skips (although it still does not run as smooth as when I don't use sound at all thanks to the crap called miles sound system). P.S. I think you can grab a few of the Miles Sound System files from the Dungeon Seige II demo. |

I wonder if anyone knows how Titan Quest determines which .m3d file to load (the m3d files correspond to what type of soundcard you have, for example - Aureal3d, EAX, Direct3d, Software, Rad3D)
There is no ingame audio selection, so how the heck does it choose which one to use??? I did a little test and removed all the m3d files except one, and did this one by one to see if the audio system was detecting which one to use automatically. So far it only seems to use directsound3d. It seems to be hardwired in the titanquest.exe, me thinks this is probably the issue all these people are having with the realtek cards, and the other audio cards besides the monopoly beast (creative labs). I tried to fool the MSS system into using different sound systems by copying the m3d files and renaming them, seems to work on some and others it don't. For example, I can't get it to use EAX, but software and rad3d seem to work fine. Last edited by roadrun777 : 07-14-2006 at 07:53 PM. |

ok i just copied the files and tried it.. now in the game itself it fixed the sound stuttering.. and im hearing sounds from creatures i never heard before hehe.. but in the loading screen it still stutters a bit... but i mean ok its just a loading screen right?... so i think this really will fix the sound issue.. now i havent played it for a long period of time but after 20 minutes it seems just fine.. ill try the game later again just to make sure
