Default Tips to increase performance

How to increase performance for Titan Quest: Immortal Throne
Unfortunately this game is known to cause several performance issues even on systems that are well above recommended system requirements. Titan Quest: Immortal Throne introduced "rubber banding", a process in which the game slows down and then suddenly speeds back up. To date, there is no guaranteed cure for that and it is unknown what causes the issue.

There are a few ways to increase performance, but there's no guarantees this will work. You can always try ofcourse, and we recommend that you try one or more of the following options.

Quote:
Use the fanpatch; it includes fixes for two lagging areas, the Crystal Room and the Tower of Judgment
Quote:
Disable Tripple buffering - it may cause stuttering and rubberbanding more than the other video settings
Quote:
Reduce all in-game video settings (obviously)
Quote:
Install the game on the same drive as your OS. The game often saves your character and if the game is on the same drive as the save folder, this may speed up the saving progress. Usually it's the C:\ Drive
Quote:
If you have a built-in videocard and having certain performance or display issues, the best way to deal with the game is to upgrade to a new videocard... the game does not (officially) support built-in video cards and built-in videocards are also known to cause minor to major issues with this game
Quote:
Try disabling soundcard accelerations:

Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Volume > Speaker settings > Advanced > Performance > Hardware ACC >

Set it to basic, or do this from dxdiag panel.
Quote:
Some people have recently found a workaround, which involves creating a small page file of virtual memory on the hard drive housing the operating system of the computer. By creating approximately 2-32 MB of virtual memory, many users have reported a significant drop in rubber-banding, as well as other problems in the game. The lack of a paging file on the main hard drive is often caused when a computer has more than one drive. Windows XP will automatically create a large paging file on an alternate drive, leaving the main drive clean.
Quote:
Some other users have reported that completely disabling the paging file works too. After doing this if you run your titan quest the next time, an error message would pop up saying that virtual memory is required or something like that.. this is where you would have to edit your options.txt from your Profile\My documents\My games\Titan Quest - Immortal Throne\Settings folder : change the skipCompatibilityChecks = false to true then save and run your exe again. This should most probably fix the fps drop on hours of playtime problem both for single and multi player.
Quote:
If you have dual core (or any form of multicore):

Go in documents > my games > titanquestimmortalthrone > settings >

Open the file ''options.txt''

Change ''forceSingleProcessorMode = true" to ''forceSingleProcessorMode = false"
Quote:
General performance tweaks; update your drivers, update windows, get the latest version of DirectX (if it's compatible with your videocard), scan for viruses, remove spyware, defragment your computer every once in a while, update your BIOS, etc...

I would not recommend setting your process for TQ:IT above the "HIGH" setting, as this can cause crahes in the Windows environment unless the program is specifically written to use the "real time" priority setting. By setting the process to "High" you give Immortal Throne all of the resources it needs, and still allow Windows to carry out and and all background tasks it needs to take care of.

To make this even easier, I would suggest using a program like Prio that will allow you to permanently set the priority of the Immortal Throne Process to "high" so that you won't have to do it everytime you start the program. Prio is a program that allows you to permanently set the priority of a program, allowing you to set the TQIT.exe process to "High" to get smoother framerates, and hopefully help in decreasing the frequency of the "rubber-banding" effect.

triple buffering and v-sync use a lot of video memory
for the performance:
1)no v-sync no triplebuffer(best performance)
2)no v-sync yes triplebuffer(you are crazy with this settings)
2)yes v-sync no triplebuffer(no tearing effect, raccomended on videocards with <256MB)
2)yes v-sync yes triplebuffer(no tearing effect, raccomended on videocards with >256MB)

Well, with my geforce 8800gt 512, both on = nice and smooth.

And, my experience has been that I get rubberbanding in LAN play, where I'll get snapped back, or my gf will get snapped back a few paces while running around.

When the game does a big load, it slows down considerably, even stopping. It then does a fast catch-up, where it speeds you back up to where you should be. I call that lag. Sometimes, you just need to defrag your harddrive. I use PerfectDisk with smartplacement, and everything runs better except the modding tools. I don't think perfectdisk actually registers how often I use those proggies. :/

another tip:
if you have a pc(don t use with notebook, could be dangerous) with hard disk sata:
go in start, ''exe'', in the box write
devmgmt.msc>discs units>select your hard disc>propietisd>
enable cache
enable high performances

for defrag i use windows and now i don t have lags, on net too

@Barlitto; this thread is about performance issues, not about lost caravan items. The problem is known, I don't know the answer though. Best I can advice you is to make a new thread about it or use the search function

As for Vsync, I heard that only happened when you started alt+tabbing out of the game, not sure if that's true.

I edited it too... No improvement! Until I noticed that I was now able to turn every single graphic effect up to high and turn on details and anti aliasing without ANY drop in performance
