Default nVidia 280 GTX / ATI 4870 x2

Does anybody have either card? If so, could you tell your experience?

<---Evga GTX280

I'm currently awaiting my second RMA due to overheating issues. It was a beautiful card for the 2 min total I've gotten to play using each. Loaded up game and temp shot to 104c immediately. There seems to be a lot of problems with these cards.

The 4870's from all accounts are very good, solid and stable cards. If I weren't such a nvidia fan boy I'd go that route. This is my last try and if I get another overheater I'll just stay with my 8800GT back up card.

That is what I am afraid of...I heard a lot of rumors about defective card. I am planning to have my 8800GTX replaced, I am 90% incline to buy 280 GTX because it is a single GPU and uses little power in idle mode. Because of a potential bad card, I might as well buy the factory overlocked version eVGA FTW or BFG OCX since they are hand picked.

4870x2 on the hand is a powerful card but it consumes about 100-130 watts more than the GTX. Since it is actually a crossfire card, I didn't think it works with a tv tuner well.

You have or had SLI setup, right? Does TQ/IT scale with SLI? If so, decision decision: $550 x2 or $539 GTX FTW

I'm also looking for a GTX280, because it's single core.

However, I'm gonna wait untill the new revisions are in. With new revision I mean the cards that are build with a smaller die.
Right now I thin Nvidia is still at 65nm, but thay are also making cards at 55nm.

I;m waiting for those 55nm card to hit the stores. Should be cooler, and it's a further revision so card-makers learned from their first mistakes

As far as I can tell, oktober will be the time these cards hit the stores.
The 'official' release should be at 27th of August, but then it will take a while till the cards are actually for sale of course.

If you want more info, google for GTX280 and 55nm

I dont know which language you speak, but here is some text in Dutch.

Woohoo I finally had a usefull contribution to these forums (I hope)

I had an SLi setup (7950GT's). TQ/IT worked ok with it but overall it's pretty iffy with most games. There is a lot of rumors that SLi might be getting dropped by nvidia after all the 790 chipset problems. I've heard a few mobo manufactures getting out of using nvidia chipsets and going with Intel.

I'd just hang tight and see how things pan out for both companys and what happens to SLi. That GTX you're running should still allow you to run fairly well for some time.
