Default Installed but still need disk to load game

Ok I'm a whinner, but why do I need to insert my installation disk to load the TQ game if it is installed already on my PC? Shouldn't I just be able to click on the TQ icon on my desktop and the game load up without having to insert the disk?

First of all you might want smaller text.

Ok, computers work differently than game consoles. The computer has to read and save data off of the disk, so the disk is needed. I have very rarely seen a game that didn't need the disk, and it was a crappy game.

Welcome to the forums!

What?

No, a lot of good games don't require the disk and it has nothing to do with save data. It's all about anti-piracy measures. The game makes sure you own the game by looking that you have the physical disk.

Yep, this is "copy protection" and is fairly standard among PC games, unless you like the more recent DRM of games like Mass Effect. Then again, you could always go with Stardock which has no copy protection on their games whatsoever.

Well some companies like to think that we as gamers like being ****ed up the *** every time we buy one of their games. EA is just about the worst. Stardock's aproach is a million times more reasonable. Anyway I haven't heard yet of a DRM system which has not been defeated.
So more power to Stardock and people like them!

FYI

If you install the Community patch/fix it disables the need for the cd

Really? Hmmmm that's awesome but they "fixed" Homados and the Barb's Spiked Greaves. Those were my favorite items.

How is homados fixed?? I still get the +zillion% attack speed one every time. I put it on and say: "Oh, another bugged one....."
And then I sell it at my next visit in town.
