Loading every few seconds. [Solved]

I am running TQ:IT on a 1.9ghz dual core p4 on 2gb ram and a 512 mb shared vid card on a laptop, just formatted and installed xp instead of vista. All drivers up to date.


The issue is: when I try to play the game, it goes to the black screen with the skull on the bottom right, loading something every 15-60 seconds. It's only there for 1-5 seconds, but as often as it happens is really impeding my gameplay.

While I was running vista the game ran a bit choppy but didn't have the loading screen issue...now it's less choppy, but load-y.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sorta solved the problem - I bought a new computer.

Now the problem is - every time I push Alt or X or Z to see what's on the ground, the game just stops. When I release, everything is cool once again.

I play on a lan with my brother, and I hate it that he's getting all the drops...someone help. Please.

Here's an update - I was switching some stuff around and noticed that my keyboard was plugged into the mouse port. Switched to the proper one, and everything's happy.

Just in case anyone else has the same issue...that might be the first thing to check.

Yet another update...

Few restarts later, it started doing the same crap again, and I'd noticed that it also does it in other games. I guess it's something with the ps/2 port. Switched to a USB keyboard, all's happy.
