Multiplayer Not Working?

Hi! My boyfriend and I have been trying to play Titan Quest multiplayer together, but whenever we try to connect to one anothers' game, we get an, "Unable to Connect" message. I'm able to connect to other games, but not his, so I think it's a problem on his end.
He DMZ'd his router, so we've established that isn't the issue. He has no Antivirus software installed that would be interfering with the game. All of my ports are open properly, and he isn't going through a router right now.
Does anyone have any idea what might be up? Is this just a problem with the game itself or something? If so, it's a pretty poor bug to have this long after release. You'd think it would be on the top of the priority list to fix.

do you each have a different cd key, often times with games if you make a copy and try multi player it wont work.

Yes, we each have our own CD keys.
