Default Another "lost my character" problem

I bought Titan Quest back in 2006 but never had the time to play it. Finally got around to installing it a week or so back and am currently in Chang'an. I was picking up loot, game froze up, had to power down my PC. Came back up, started Titan Quest, only option was to create a new character. The player.chr file is there, but it apparently isn't being seen by TQ.

After reading a few other threads about this, I downloaded Defiler and it said the character file may not be recoverable. I made a backup copy of my character file and then copied the Backup file to the Save directory (the backup file was created last night around 1am.) Started TQ, my character was correct, but I was all the way back at the starting point (Road to Helos) with no quests.

I haven't done anything further for fear of screwing it up even worse. Is there a way to get my game back to where it was? The other threads I read were "the character is gone" but my case seems to be "the character is fine but the game progress is gone."

I am running TQ (original retail US release) with patch 1.20 (didn't know there was a 1.30, but I am afraid to patch now until this is resolved.)

My Documents\My Games\Titan Quest - Immortal Throne\SaveData\Main\_charname\Levels_World_World0 1.map

contains quest files. You can try to delete (remember to backup) all the .que files and then clikcking the person next to the rebirth fountain in Chang'an.

If that doesn't help, try to delete the .myw files too and clicking that person.

Your waypoints still work, don't they?

Went back in and checked the backup character - the waypoints work up to the Great Wall, which is where I left off last night. No one has any quests beyond that point though, so it's as if the game thinks I already did them, even though my quest list is blank and as of that last backup I had not done them.

I'll try deleting those files and try again. Thanks for the reply.

Thanks, that did the trick. The last thing I had done before the crash, I had found the Yellow Emperor and Feiyla (sp) had sent me East. The guard opened the gate, I attacked the monsters, and crashed while looting. Using Defiler on my backup chr file, I added the Chang'an and Jade Palace waypoints to my character, teleported to Chang'an, and tried going back to that door. Even though Faiyla said Go East, the guard refused to open the door. So I renamed the Quest and QuestToken.myw files, and while I had to redo the Jade Palace quest, I was able to get back on track.
