Default Random black screen crash

Hi,

I can play TQ IT for hours and hours perfectly, not crashing and no problems.

However, every so often the game will just crash - the screen will go black and the computer becomes unresponsive eventually resulting in the screen going into standby mode.

I have tried different drivers. No other games crash like this.

8800GTX with latest drivers & Vista x64

I see a few people have had this problem and I'm just wondering if there's any known fix?

Thanks,
Craig.

Default Re: Random black screen crash

  • Tried different graphic drivers/complete reinstalled using safe mode/DriverCleaner
  • Tested my PC with Orthos - 0 errors, 100% stable
  • Tried the game in lowest graphics
  • Tried upping RAM voltage
  • Disabled Aero
  • Updated to 175.80 beta drivers
  • Changed graphic card to performance mode rather than app specific

Gigabyte P35-DS4
BFG 8800GTX
4x 1GB Geil 6400 4-4-4-12 RAM
Core 2 Duo E6600

Nothing's overclocked at the moment.

Graphic card never goes over 82 - the thing is set, by default, to throttle at 120oC IIRC, so 82oC is perfectly fine.

CPU temp is fine, it never goes over 45 in game, 51 with Orthos (Orthos stresses CPU/RAM more than most applications would ever stress them).

I just managed to kill TQ before it crashed the whole computer this time by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete and selecting task manager the second the screen went black. TQ was 'not responding' under the applications tab. I killed the TQ process under the processes tab and managed to save the computer from completely crashing.

After I had closed TQ I got this:

The fact that I was able to save it before it crashed tells me it's a software error, not hardware.

The game even crashes when it's in pause mode. I went for dinner earlier and left it paused, came back and the PC had crashed, so that eliminates any specific graphical objects/effects that are crashing the game.
