DVD Drive problem

Hey Guys. I started out with one dvd writer (Plextor PX-712A) and a cd writer. I then bought a second dvd writer (NEC ND-3520A) to replace the older cd writer. Both dvd writers are pata drives. Every once in a while the NEC writer would not show up under my computer, just the Plextor. Now it just doesn't show up at all in My Computer. What would cause the computer or WinXP to not recognize the NEC writer? It never happens with the Plextor.

I then bought a third dvd writer (Samsung SH-S203B SATA) and it works just fine. So now I have an A, C, D, and F drive. E should be the NEC writer. I've learned to live without it but it still bugs me every now and then. Thanx.
