Lightbulb Rewards for Defeating Heroes

My friend and I came up with this idea today as I was telling him that it was funny that Hero monsters have that gold star over their head and it falls to the ground when you kill them.

Hero monsters don't often drop good items, and as the game progresses the XP isn't even much more than normal monsters. We were thinking, what if you could pick up those stars and trade them in for things? Things you can't buy like relics, charms, perhaps some random green items, maybe even arcane formulae.

On a more possibly game-breaking level, even skill points or attribute points. They could be marked as normal, epic or legendary stars...obviously things like skill points would take a lot of stars, probably of the legendary kind.

I think it would be a neat aspect of the game, and make Hero enemies more exciting to hunt.

how it could be done (example):

five new items, we may call them stars... smallest, smaller, normal, bigger and biggest

normal heroes drop smallest, epic heroes drop smaller and legendary drop normal

using some formula recipes (bought probably in some merchant so we would not need to farm it) we could make three smallest into one smaller, three smaller into normal and so on until the biggest

after that we could make additional formula recipes that would use two stars + 1 relic or charm... for example:
two normal stars and saberclaw makes a MI sabertooth weapon... two biggest stars + something gives a revenant crown...


one thing i'm not sure - if the result of the formula must be an artifact or can it be any type of item

i like the stars idea, i tihnk they should be traded in to the oracle for the MI charms, making charms such as albino spider webs easier to get without farming for hours

Well, from what Nemhauser said, it can't be done as a "shop". My idea would require putting new variables and tables into the game, effectively making stars a second currency like gold. It would require programming a merchant to check these new elements and since I've never modded this game, I don't know how much programming flexibility there is, if any.
