Default Random + Class Specific Drops--a New Design

In many games (D2, Sacred, TQ, TQ:IT) we have the monster level constrained treasure drops from a series of organized but random tables.

What I want to suggest is to add one more level of complexity to the tables. Break out the treasure tables into one for each class and one for general (classless).

Now, as a drop occurs, instead of taking the monster level, generating your random quality level and proceeding to a table... you generate a random number that gives a 10% chance of your own class + 85% classless or 5% other class item. And then proceed down the tables.

This still allows for random drops, allows for classless drops, and still allows a player to search for another class's items.

But it helps the Single Player by focusing some drops on the character class played.

Still random, but helps with quality of drops.

The percentages of each kind would need balancing... but it still keeps the allure of random drops--just gives a healthy kind in the random department towards the drops the players prefer.

The drops aren't monster level constrained in TQ.

I do not like the idea of getting drops according to your class. I like getting all kinds of drops, even if they do not suit my character. And why would there be separate chances for a class specific drop and a non class specific drop?

I always thought it seemed I got drops for everything BUT my class, like it did it on purpose

I agree I'd not want to tie to class.
