Question Melee soothsayer, Good idea , bad idea?

I was looking over the skills in nature and spirit and thought that they seemed to sync up nicely for a physical damage based character, so i was wondering if this could work the main idea was to use regrowth and refresh to keep Dark covenant/unearthly power up permanently and have deathchill up to reduce damage taken as well as make the enemy more vunerable to plague......

is the build i was thinking of, but i'm not entirely certain. Any advice on skills, stratagey or stat distribution would be appreciated

A melee soothsayer can be very strong...I have one in the mid twenties and he is very efficient....DA and Plague tree is very effective IMO.

i decided to play no twinks, and no hacks for this char.... I was concidering hardcore too, but i wimped out when 3 stared skellies waited for me right outside Megara.

Lv 11 just got to delphi and still pure nature, had some intresting drops, Nessus dropped a Outriders buckler , and a Life Bane , and i got a Necromancers robe from polyphemus' chest, i also found Deathrattle but that won't help me much till egypt.

Actually, no they aren't...

Staffs are best for Earth or Storm, Spirit can go with either staffs or melee weapons and do just as well...

Sorry for the long time without updates but i gave Hellgate London a try and i have to say that TQ is about 20x better. Sooth is now level 17 and in the labrynth. He isnt inflicting much melee damage, but in all fairness he doesn't have access to either unearthly power or stregnth of the pack yet, I dove into spirit and picked up Deathchill Aura and Ravages of Time, it provided a siginificant defensive boost, and combined with plague kills non undead- non constructs very efficiently. I picked up Dark covenant, but its not high enough to offset my mana expenses yet. I continued to be fairly lucky with the drops, I got a Stonebinders Cuffs with -8% to equip retuirements from the inital fight with the gorgon sisters, and i found a recipie for leafsong which i immediately managed to complete. Totaled with the Necromancers robe I have +2 to all spirit skills and +1 to my nature skills, which isn't too shabby for a pet build. I still need a good weapon as i'm currently using a socketed yellow axe bought in athens.

is where i'm at now, i'm not sure where to go next as i need DPS badly but aren't quite sure the best way to try to improve it.

if spirit is coupled with something that gives bonus elemental damage, yes. otherwise your staff damage will still suck more than Ternion can make up for.

Well well... A melee Soothsayer? That does sound interesting. Personally, I've always been more biased towards ranged magic damage. My most powerful character currently is a level 37 Soothsayer, using part of Ramses' Set for the nice 70 points of armour, but I've been using a combo of lightning and cold based staves the whole time... Hence, not much on strength, mostly intelligence.

I have one problem with a melee Soothsayer though... Would you still have enough points to put on you 'energy' and 'intelligence' stats to make the spells in Nature and Spirit as effective? Melee leans towards strength and dexterity than anything else... Right?

If you take out Ternion, there is no spell in either Nature or Spirit relying on int, so yes, you can very well go melee. Wolves' Maul and most of the Liche abilities should simply love Deathchill Aura, which works very well with Plague so yes, I'd say a melee Soothsayer is viable. I've never took one further than lvl 33, though, since I was playing hardcore and let some blue dragonian mage take the better on me.

As a pet relying Soothsayer, I'd really go for the liche, though, it's a really awesome pet. Keep us posted, it's great to have feedback.

The only spell that would benefit from INT is Life Drain, so a melee Soothsayer is very possible...
