Default Ternion Math

I'm sure this has been asked a million times, but I couldn't find the answer. :-<

With one point Ternion attack does -75% damage.
Therefore, if I had 0% elemental damage from gear (or other skills) and a staff that did 100 base damage, Ternion attack would do 25 damage.

Now let's say I get some better gear and toss some points in Static Charge (or Earth Enchantment or whatever) and get up to +200% elemental damage.
Using my same 100 base damage staff, would Ternion attack do:
50 damage = 25 * 200%
or
125 damage = 100 * (200-75)%

Thanks a lot for the help!

P.S. The number is this thread are just to illustrate the question, obviously I'd never really run around with only 1 point in Ternion <grin>

Or 100*3,0*0,25=75.

Whatever +% dmg you get, is applied before reductions, I believe.

If you acquire +200% dmg, you're doing 300% dmg. So 100 base + 200% is 300 dmg. That gets reduced by 75%, and you get 75 dmg.

No, all +% and -% stuff are changes to the base, not the total.

Without ternion's reduction it's like this: 100 + 200% * 100 = 300

After ternion reduction it would be: 100 + (200% - 75%) * 100 = 225

This is how all +%'s work, I don't see why it would change with -%. I've also found with good +elemental% (from enchant skills) I do a lot of damage with just 1 point in ternion and maxed out arcane lore.

Note: Ternion's description says it has -75% elemental damage. Not -75% total damage.

Your all wrong Mahahaha.
True answer is if your not doing elemental damage is 3*100=300 max (IE fired point blank into a big monster).
Or if your doing elemental damage then its 3*(100*(1+(2-0.75))= 3*(100*2.25)=3*225= 675.

Well, we were talking about each bolt seperately :P But ya, if all three bolts hit, that's the effective damage. Your calculation may look a little different, but it is the same as mine in the end only you multiplied it by all 3 bolts.

So you understand the break down of his calculation:
NumberOfBoltsLandOnTarget * (baseDamage * (100% + (TotalElemental% - ternionPenalty)))
