Just been doing some rough calculations comparing hunting and archery.

Its ~+109% perma and ~+247% for ~1 min in old hunting at will. (Though it be higher vs beasts & beastmen)
In archery its ~+131% perma this is higher than old hunting with a ~19% chance to do ~+47% total damage. Assuming its a 25% pierce bow that an extra 33% as well as +47% for +210% pierce 19% of the time. So new mastery is ~+133% pierce on average (with 25% pierce).
Edit with Signal of Attack its an other 99% more pierce giving a reliable bonus of 230% pierce and max of 309% and average of 232% for 30 secs

Ok so lets factor in study prey and sickness arrow.
Hunting gives an extra 50% phys/piercing damage for 8 secs and gives 313.5% to 520.5% pierce.
Archery sickness arrow gives +216% total damage for 7 secs with 10% chance of triggering giving 730% -979% pierce, or 736% on avg.
Edit: With Signal of Attack its 1042.8 to 1292.44% or 1046% on avg

So the max damage output is higher for a good archery build, per arrow, but is harder to get the max damage then for hunting, who can get in on demand.
And the archery base dps is actually higher than hunting (with out the timed aura boosts).

There are also lots of useless skills for bow based chars in Archery mastery.

You sure you got it the right way round?

As i can count 3 skills that are useless for a bow based class in hunting.
Takedown and Eviscerate as for spears, Flush Out is useless for bow users as Defense ability and elemental resist dont boost bow damage, then theres Gouge which IMO is a so so skill (works out as ~190 dps bonus at maxed), so you can say theres 4.

In archery as far as i can see theres only a max of 3 that you can agrue are usless the 3 ways that you not using.

3 of the ''ways'' are useless, seeing how 1 is always the best. In this case the ''sickening arrow''.

The adhesive trap is so so, costing a lot of mana for a low mana toon and not that useful either.

So, it's just 4 abilities. However, Archery is only to be played using a bow. (Otherwise you're just plain dumb or want to play some crazy combos).

Hunting can be played with bow, sword or spear.

The problem with the masteries mod is that its masteries are too focused on 1 sort of weapon, and not taking that mastery for that weapon is idiotic.

The most fun masteries are the allrounders, eg Vampirism, Alchemy and Chronosophy.

Not if you use Sorcery as a secondary but sure, Sickening Arrow is still better.

Its not an archer if its mixed with sorcery.

When will the people learn, its not important if you do it, the style is what matters.
