Thumbs up #TQnet IRC Tutorial! (Newbie-friendly!)

Welcome! This is a simple tutorial to get new IRC users connected to our IRC chat room.
There are several clients (programs) that can be used to connect to an IRC network, but for the purposes of this tutorial I will explain how to connect using one of the most popular clients, mIRC.

First, download the mIRC program. Click here for download mirrors.

Once you have downloaded the program and installed it, you should have an icon on your desktop that looks like this:

Open the program by double-clicking or open from your Program list in the Start Menu and the first thing you see will be something like this:

Click on continue.

Note: You will continue to see a prompt to register mIRC each time you log in. When you have reached the end of your evaluation period, you will NOT be forced to pay to continue using the program. There will simply be a delay before you can hit the continue button. If you register the program, you will pay $20 and support the continued development of the program… or make that Khaled fellow rich… one or the other. The point is, the program no longer will bug you about registering. But you will never be required to register.

Once you have clicked the continue button, the next thing you see will be this:

On the left-hand sidebar you should have “Connect” highlighted like the picture shows. If it is not, click once on it. Type in your Full Name (does not require real name) your Email address (use any email address you desire). Type in the Nickname you prefer to use while chatting. The alternative nickname will be used if someone happens to be on the server at that time that is already using your first choice.

Good. Once you have filled out these fields, click once on the “Servers” tab immediately below the Connect tab you are on. You should now see this:

You are almost done! Look for the GameSurge folder (folders are listed alphabetically) and click on it. Now click once on Random Server or (Random EU Server if you are located in the EU).

Now click on the “OK” button on the bottom of that window. You will now connect to the Gamesurge IRC servers. This is what you will see:

You are now connected to the Gamesurge servers, but you need to join our Channel.
Type in “#tqnet” (as shown above), and click Join.

You will now be in #tqnet talking to your fellow Titanquest.net forum buddies! You will see something similar to this:

Click in the box at the bottom of the window and begin talking and if you require further help with IRC someone in the channel can further assist you.

Credit: Thanks to Infares for hosting the images. Thanks to BitVector and Yusuke for helping register and secure the channel and helping with IRC in general.

I know this post is pretty old, doesn't look like anyone hangs out in the IRC channel anymore. If anyone wants to come hang out and chat, I'm going to stay in #tqnet for a few days and see if anyone else shows up.

I'm thinking about starting the IRC channel again. I know Infares is gone over to the dark side.

Would this be worth my time to set it up and get a chanOP in there. I have a spare PC that i can keep a Op in there most of the time. I can also put some other bots if we want.

I don't want to waste the time if there isn't any people that want to idle and chat in there anymore. I remember that there use to be about 10 to 11 people in there most of the day. I idled in there for a while and went to the darkside like infares to WoW and now i'm back and playing a lot again.
