Need help with Magician build

This is infact my 3rd character.. i thought it would be a cool combination but wanted to know what skills to use, and which to avoid.. im tyring to make him mainly a melee guy. also avoiding the core dweller, i dont like pets hehe. are the traps any good? poison skills good? also do they do just as good in legendary.. ?

also info on earth skill sowuld be nice too

i honestly fail to see what could be good about melee magician who doesnt use CD, that pretty much kills everything earth mastery has to offer. you might try ring of flame/earth enchantment and stone form but thats prolly it. traps are good till the end of the game(but they are pets too). poison skills lose a lot of potential later on
