Default So, i just discovered Iron Lore's new project...

THIS is the reason my rage over Starcraft 2 going into limbo has subsided slightly and why i will not be buying Universe at War: Earth Assault. i've got to say, this surprised me greatly; never since Valve's The Orange Box have i seen so much epic goodness crammed into one package

and now for my question(s):

1) Going from diablo-esque RPG to a full blown RTS is a bit of a jump...what prompted this sudden change?

2) What do you guys think about working on this project?

3) Will you be able to keep us posted on updates and the like?

now if you'll excuse me i have to take a victory lap

Well, to be honest, it wasn't like we woke up one day and decide we all wanted nothing more than to work on the next expansion for DoW. We attempting to pitch our next RPG project and the process was taking too long; we were running out of operating money. Like mana from heaven, the DoW project fell out of the sky to land upon our doorstep and as we suckled from its teet, thus were we nourished and the people were happy and there was much rejoicing for it was a nice teet indeed. Yeah, so thats pretty much how it happened exactly. I think we are well situated to work on it though since, ironically, as a company we have a lot more RTS experience than we did RPG experience before TQ.

We were all pretty excited to work on it. There are a lot of Warhammer fans in the office and many of us were already fans of DoW - we used to have big 4x4 matches on our LAN all the time when it first came out. About the only downside to it is that its not our own game, so we don't have as much creative control as we might like but its been a great experience working with Relic and GW. Sadly, I personally didn't get to work on it much since I have to slave away producing countless overly verbose documents and demos to pitch our next project to publishers. I can't wait to start testing pvp though so I can pwn the rest of the company at their own game - mauhHAhahaHaha

Unfortunately I don't really know that much about whats going on with Soulstorm but if you had a specific question you could PM me and I'll try to answer it. Of course, I probably can't say much more than what is already published on game sites. Generally marketing people want to keep every scrap of information as a possible exclusive for magazines and game sites, we have to keep our mouths shut!

Ditto after the Roldand. Quality folks should continue to make quality games. So...I guess everyone will be waiting.

Haha, you must be great at your job, seriously. That's Post 9 from Outer Space, right there. That post touches me, and I'm considering pressing charges, lol. Ignore my hackery.

Well, I played and enjoyed the origianl DoW, but I basically skipped the expansions. For no particular reason other than there were other games to play, and they were also entertainment punctuated by explosions of one variety or another.

I'm looking forward to seeing Iron Lore's contribution to the series. I've yet to see this "meta-game" that was added in Dark Crusade, but it sounds like a natural addition, to the betterment of the series.

Hmm, had you guys already confirmed that your next (I'm assuming) "original IP" would be a RPG, somewhere else? I have been known to take up residence in the proverbial hole from time to time, so I might have just missed it. Either way, thanks for that info.

If I'm in an RPG mood, I go back to TQ:IT, every time. I'm glad your absence in the genre will be relatively short. Seriously, nobody else seems to understand how to make an ARPG. Some of these other devs have come close, even creating something resembling playable on more than one occasions. You guys, though, really nailed it with TQ and IT in a way that hasn't been done since Diablo II set the bar.

-All the best!

Oh wow... "Plan 9 From Outer Space"... I dated girl in college who got that movie from her uncle for Christmas. I'm not sure what he was thinking but apparently it is widely considered to be one of the worst movies of all time. It was quite an experience.

I'm not sure if I mentioned anywhere that we'd be doing an RPG but its a good bet it will be that or Sponge Bob Square Pants Under The Sea Adventure IV.

I'm glad you've enjoyed TQ so much! Of course, we had no idea what we were doing when we made it. Hopefully we can do even better next time around.

I truly wish there was a blog somewhere so that we could keep up with what's going on at Iron Lore. I'd love to know as soon as you guys got new projects and whatnot. I can't wait for your next release!

I love the blog idea.. they should do it.. Similar to how the people working on Fallout are doing.. SWEET.. plus this is all about keeping in touch with your demographics and seeing peoples comments in a more casual layout like a blog is set up.. We have had Forums since the stone age of computers but for some reason people think blogging is more/less, NEW.. when in fact it's not.. Just presented differently in a "more dynamic" and streamlined into the actual page.. Only thing thats changed is the "Everybody's got one now service.".

One thing a blog DOES do nowadays is make it more public.. Hardly anyone this generation is Googling "??????? Forums" it's "??????? BLOG" this.

And think about it.. Dynamic Advertising all the way up to launch.
