Default Re: Patch news

On a side note, I've followed this patch thread (and the other) that the devs have been posting some in...and if I can make a small request that I'm sure the community would greatly appreciate...PLEASE remove the caravan file check. Immortal Throne went in the right direction by removing the character file check, but instead put an embedded path check in the caravan? This was a horrible, horrible idea...as can be seen by the countless "I lost my caravan" threads on this and other forum sites by users who have reformatted without knowing the results (and right when a new OS was released and this would be a greater-than-usual issue). I'm sure the community would agree to have this problem fixed to avoid these types of threads, as well as having a TQ Vault capable of caravan manipulation. Also, why wasn't the character check removed in vanilla TQ with the 1.30 patch to "sync" the two more? Could this be done for the next TQ patch (if a separate patch is released for both TQ and IT that is)? From a programming standpoint, blocking the call to check that file shouldn't be a time-consumer by any means and many of us would appreciate it.

Aside from the above, I hate to see the crap that IL has been put through by THQ and I hope that it doesn't hamper the company's future progress (hopefully with a new publisher). All of us have enjoyed the game and its expansion, and a few have enjoyed making our own "additions" to an already A grade game.

Apparently the person responsible for the code which causes the "rubberbanding" effect is no longer on the ironlore team. Its also been indicated that it was a comprehensive change to the way the game loads in new content and is not an easy thing to revert. So I think it may be doubtul we will see a fix for this now.

However, apart from some mild frame rate issues in some places in the game I have no other problems. So sorry if your experiencing gamestopping issues, but maybe you should look at your own hardware/software configuration before you go pointing fingers. The game is hardly unplayable and has a good deal of polish lacking from alot of titles these days.

I remain disgusted at THQ however. I feel If they had put up the cash for this game to have secure servers to begin with this game would have done alot better than this, and we wouldnt have this problem

This time could have better been spent correcting the real problems in the game, i.e. technical problems.
Of course, I don't know anything about the details and the difficulties, but I believe I do know that people are more concerned with actual bug fixes than balancing issues. If you "just" balance the game now, it would seem like a substitution instead of doing the "real" work. This is not what is hoped for, at least not now.
If the rubberbanding and / or other technical issues prove too difficult to fix within the given time, please try to "ease" the problem(s) instead at least. (Smart words, I know. )
This would be better that doing substitution work, at least in my point of view. (No offense.)

@medierra

Titan Quest is a great game, you included so many good features wanted by the community (especially the caravan) with IT, so pls continue the good work. In my opinion THQ/IL should consider to release a second expansion maybe with nordic mythologie(AND SOME TWOHANDED WEAPONS ).

I think (and can say as a video/computergames gamer since 1979) ongoing support by the publisher/developer is what keeps a game running for the fanbase and as a sideeffect the publishers/developers name also benefits from this. Especially THQ should realize.

Cheers,
Maledicus.

Something is not right here...
Heh, actually you are correct, we have not made any money at all from TQ thus far. It isn't unusual though. The way development contracts generally work is that a pubsher has to recoupe their investment before a developer starts to collect royalties. So, if a game doesn't do well enough then it is very likely that the developer will not see any profit from it. Until a developer has a big hit and generates a bunch of profit, most operate on a tight budget living from project to project. That is why you see small developers going out of business so frequently. Usually you only have a couple of months, assuming you've budgeted yourself well, to get your next contract. If you don't manage to land a new contract right away - thats it. We were in that position after we shipped TQIT and only managed to sign our next deal a couple weeks before we would have to close the doors and look for new jobs. But hey, thats just how it goes.

Developing games is fun and challenging work but the industry is incredibly competitive and you never know when you're going to be out looking for your next job.

Lol... its not quite that bad yet, although we should have thought to explore those options.

I think I've found the solution to all our money problems though because I'm about to click on the ad link above that says "Take the First Step to Financial Independence"

Just don't go for those TV ads that say you can make $5,000 a day. It's a sham!

I'm glad that you take the time to check in every now and then. Hang in there, we would all love to see some more TQ content in the future and good things for IL as well.

Thanks for checking in with us Medierra!

We "collectively" wish the very best for IronLore and crew!

Best of luck on a new project. With the reviews for TQ/IT I would think that you'll get picked up soon (I hope) for a new RPG project. Looks like Sony has contracted with Chris Taylor's company (Gas Powered Games) to create a new rpg as well. If they can do it surely IL can as well

I liked DS and DS2...but it's no Titan Quest that's for sure heh

Again, very best of luck and regards to the Team!

I hate to sound like a wascally wabbit, BUT:

I am playing the original, unpatched TQ with no problems. In one instance, I couldn't get a character to talk to me because I had portalled out without speaking to him first. My smart wife found the cure online and repaired it.

I do not know what "rubber banding" is. The game is great, and adding IT made it better still.

Good deal Vince, glad it's working well for you. It does for me as well

But the fact is that "some" system configs/hardware/patch setups don't perform as well as others.

There is an issue with how the IT version "catches" data for areas, some with a heavier load than others...causeing a "rubber-banding/lag" with the character as it tries to move.

Some player's machines deal with it better than others.

There also seems to be an issue with drivers for the 8800 cards. As they don't perform near what one would expect. Sometimes quite a bit below that of a lesser card.

There "are" issues...but it's a mixed bag of monkeys, with no definitive answer for a solution. With the original programmer/s gone it's likely not going to be dealt with soon, if at all by IL/THQ.

This is a pity yet understandable to some degree. It's the nature of the PC game beast.

Sometimes you just have to roll with the punches and do the best you can with a game and move on if you have to.

I'd like to say that the majority of players can play TQ/IT very well, or well enough to not consider stopping playing. But that is an assumption on my part solely based on the fact that if it were a wider spread problem we'd hear about it a lot more here on the forums.

I guess those of us who don't have a problem just need to be thankful that it works well with our machines.

And wish our fellow community members the best of luck and work together to perhaps create our own "work arounds or fixes" to the problems we can.

Regards & Good hunting All!
