chances are they will, I would not have expected that to have an impact on a large number of buyers tho, I like the top down look for ARPGs, they give you more of an overview (you see what is behind your back) imo - but maybe I am just old fashioned

What I definitely do not care for is moving the camera myself, I am lazy

Quote:
I think top-down ARPGs could still make money if they were developed cheaply enough but I don't think they will ever again achieve sales like Diablo or even break a million copies regardless of quality. I think it is similar to the way that turn-based strategy games declined after the advent of real-time.
I still prefer Civilization over any RTS game (ok, so maybe I am old fashioned)

It is hard to compare TQ screenshots to Oblivion screenshots. Even though I think a lot of our art is great-looking and actually "over-engineered" for our pulled out camera perspective where you can hardly appreciate the detail.
Probably true, but I still sometime marvel at the level of detail and that after months of play, you definitely created great graphics. I have stopped playing Oblivion, I still play TQ (and stopped being impressed by Oblivions graphics a lot earlier).

Quote:
Seeing a flat top-down screenshot of TQ just doesn't invoke the same feeling. So, unfortunately, while I believe we succeeded in create some really fun gameplay, I think a lot of people who might enjoy the game will never buy it because it just doesn't look "sexy" enough. I'm sure the bright, happy, ancient world setting with no blood put some people off too. I guess it is a lesson learned much to our misfortune.
I do not care for blood and gore, some is ok, too much is negative, none is ok too, so at least for me this stuff is not an issue. As for the setting being not very exotic / fantastic that is true, wasn't much of a downside for me tho.

I think there is definately still a future for ARPGs though - but to really capture the market they will need to shift to a tighter-in over-the-shoulder 3rd person or first-person perspective.
Probably true, everyone is moving in that direction, maybe even having 3D and iso look to switch between.

How much more sales are we talking about here?
I might post this in the main general area or other forums to get people to be aware of the situation and perhaps encourage more people to buy the game.
When I've gotten a job I might pick up a second extra copy of TQ & IT.

When I got TQ, 2 other of my friends got it too, both of them are WoW players. The demo got them going for it and we MP a few sessions until one of my friend started hacking his character. Then only 2 of us were left to MP but after awhile, I'm the only one going on with the game.

And needless to say, none of my friends got IT when it was released except me. I read somewhere in a local forum that another guy was not impressed by TQ either and therefore completely ignored IT when it was released. And there you have already 3 cases of wasted potential sales, I'm sure there are plenty more out there that gave IT the miss when it was released. I'm sure why they didn't want to get IT was because many of them shelved TQ since a long time ago but the reason why they did so still eludes me.

Back in July 2006, I was at Sim Lim Square here in Singapore buying myself a new PC to replace a 5-year-old one. On this old PC, the game that I played the longest was D2. I played D2/LOD for more than 3 years.

My plan that day was to select the computer parts, and while waiting for it to be assembled by the shop, walk around the mall looking for a game to play on it. I had already set my heart on Oblivion. In fact I even asked the PC shop to give me a computer whose specs can specifically play Oblivion.

At the game shop, I happened on a display promoting TQ. This was the FIRST time I ever heard of TQ. It intrigued me because of its Diablo-esque look. And lucky for me there were a couple of PCs with the demo installed. I played a bit.

Today, I still haven't touched Oblivion, though it's been on my mind. But I would buy TQ2 without a 2nd thought.

Hi,

Eh...anyhow this ends I'm glad I have played TQ+IT. Despite the bugs and problems that got along, this is one of the best games I've ever played. I'm playing TQ almost a year..man, what a time!! ...and I have never been bored with it. Only D2 managed the same..

TQ is respectable D2 successor in my opinion! (though I don't like these two compared).

THANKS FOR IT! :]

ok i could say im so glad we heard from some of the devlopers. I could say im still playing this game. I ould but my heart isn't in it.

I really was pulling for this game, upstart little compand trying to make a fun game. I read your strategy guide, loved the game play of the original.

I have been visiting back here ever since a month ago i uninstalled all of TQ/IT. It's been morbid curiousity like slowing down at a car crash.

This above quote has me picking my jaw off the ground. You put out a product that doesn't work. It play worse then an game and im running a Duo Core 6800 with 8800 GTX SLI a 5K system and the rubberbanding is unplayable. The bugs are all over the place. YOU have a responsibility to support you customers, or you go out of business and get yourself smacked with a class action lawsuit for not fixing this piece of garbage.

Yep this is just going downhill from here.

"Hopefully sales will prove good enough to warrant a patch at some point"
you have GOT to be kidding.

Nope. i'm out of hear. Cancel my membership to this friggin site. Burn my bridges, drop my Alexander Curiass, and say see you later. THIS one left a BAD taste in my mouth. Crash and burn IronLore/THQ spread the blame game around.

There is a good side to this both the strategy guide and the cds were taking up much needed space on my shelves, so thanks IL/THQ for making some expensive garbage.

Yes i am actually playing Oblivion right now as we speak, Been modifying some sweat golden Saint armor adding a visor to the open helmet. So ill enjoy this 3d world with beautifull vistas, smooth game play, involving story and great combat.

Flame/blame/rant all you want and/or close the thread. I am permanently done with Iron Lore and THQ you both truely and heartfeltedly suck.

BURN BABY BURN THOSE BRIDGES it FRIDAY im free of this game forever!

ok that was my most angry post ever, what can i say now....

oh i know!

have a nice day

Actually, first-person perspective is the reason I did NOT buy Oblivion. I just can't stand first-person perspective games.
But I guess I'm quite the dinosaur in that respect...

Yes, looked promising... until it was announced the game would ship with Starforce.
Game over.
