Permanent slow down

I have the latest patch, and oddly enough the FIRST time i ran the game, i played for hours with only 15 seconds of slowdown every few minutes. granted it was annoying but playable.

but NOW the following day, the video sound is terribly choppy, and video seems to run in slow motion. then i finally get into the game and the entire game is in slow motion! every runs very smooth, except my character is running around at about 25% speed and the whole world even text is animated in very slow motion.

how do i fix this?

my system is dual core AMD 4600 x2, i have 2GB DDR2 RAM, Geforce Go 7800 GTX, and a 7200 RPM seagate HD.

i love this game and i'm very frustrated that it has become magically unplayable overnight! I did a full reinstall and the issues remain. i tried different resolutions, tried disabling multi cores, tried windowed mode, vertical sync on and off, and messed with difficulty levels. nothing helped. i have the latest drivers (system properties says 4/2006 is the date of my driver for the video, despite the fact that i fully installed the driver listed as 7/2006 from Nvidia).

So everything is updated, everything SHOULD be working, i have a very high end computer, please help thanks!

Have you installed the AMD Dual-Core Optimizer?

It helps smooth things out for a lot of CPU dependant games.

Thx DS, I went ahead and downloaded it myself, I got an AMD Athlon64 4200+ myself.

I dont know how much it helps with TQ because I installed it prior to TQ but with Half-Life 2 , CS:S it improves a lot.
