Frozen mouse

I have no problems loading or starting game, however, after intro screen, the little hand sits in the middle of the screen and I have no mouse control over it. However, if I move my mouse around, I can get the side bar to light up so its working, but for some reason the little hand isn't getting controlled by mouse. I have Dell 3.2 Ghz, ati 9800xt, audigy sound. Any ideas appreciated.

Also, loaded all patches and reinstalled game with all patches, sequentially. None worked. Tried to set to 98 compatability mode, but wasn't sure if it was switching.

That could happen if your firewall tries to ask permission for Titan Quest to access the internet. I know I have had problems like that with my firewall .. Though this might not be your issue now, but maybe try to play without firewall ?
