Default Crashing issues summary

I will get an exceptions.txt as soon as I can, just wan't to share my problems and findings...

When I got TQ it ran great, I believe I patched immediately to 1.08. I don't recall any performance issues or anything. At some point I started having game freezes of 10 up to even 30 seconds. Sometimes the game would start again, but often this would lead to a blue screened machine. The BSOD could happen after multiple hours of play or after a few minutes. I did notice it happened twice on the final stretch of the epic egyptian telkine where you run down a hall with demons before the final door, but this was probably just coincidence...it is not repeatable in any case. Usually the sound skips before a BSOD, but the sound is spotty at best for me in this game.

The BSOD mentions the NV4_DISP driver and said it was caught in an "infinite loop" and that my system is being reset to protect my computer from damage.

Long story short I updated from the current Nvidia drivers to beta this morning. As I played again the freeze happened and went on like it was going to Blue screen, but this time the screen went black. It seemed like the game was still running as I could drink a potion and hear the sound. I was able to ALT-F4 out which is much better than a hard boot.

My PC seems to be quite stable and I can't recall having any problems with any other games in this way since I've had it (9 months or so). I'm currently running the game at 1024x768 (i have not actually tried 800x600)
I've tried:
- with or without triple buffering, vsync
- various detail settings (originally things ran nicely with medium for everything)
- with or without game jackal running it
- uninstalled symantec AV completely and still get crashes
- various nvidia control settings (best performance etc...but now it's on "let application decide")

It seems to be getting worse, although I'm probably just imagining it. One thing I will try just in case is starting a new character.

edit: oh yeah I have an Althon 64 3500+, 1.5 GB RAM, 256MB GeForce6800GS

Interesting update...at lunch I fired TQ up again (did reboot since that black screen) And instead of loading the screen blinked from black to the desktop to black repeatedly, about 1-2 secs on the black and on the desktop. I couldn't ALT-F4 or anything and I didn't have enough time to do anything before the screen blanked again.

Gamejackal WAS running at this time, eventually I cold booted and loaded TQ (sans Gamejackal this time), and it worked (a little jittery, but of course I may be a bit oversensitive after weird stuff like that). Hopefully i'll have time to play tonight (without Gamejackal for awhile) and I guess I'll wait and see if the beat nVidia drivers have accomplished anything.

Also I turned off sound hardware accelration, but haven't had time test.

Weird and unplayable

Found out that if the game crashes, although it doesn't blue screen anymore...every time afterwards I try and start TQ I get this unstoppable blinking black screen on and off and I have to power down...never seen anything like it.

But TQ is done for me until they can fix it. That REALLY sucks!

My crashes were not 1.11 related, still get them in 1.08. I think they may be nVidia driver related as going back to March seems to have helped (so far...)
