Default Game Freezes, but recovers

Machine Specs:
ASUS A8N Premium
2 gig OCZ memory
4400+ AMD X2
SLI eVGA 7900's

I will play the game and randomly the game action will FREEZE, I can still hear the music and it does not stutter, also if I have mp3's playing in the backround they do not stop or stutter either. After about 15-30 seconds the game un-FREEZES and I can play again for a little while until it does it again.

First I am curious if anyone else has experienced this and if their machine specs similar to mine.

I play the game with all settings to HIGH because it rocks this way, graphics are awesome, but this freezing is kinda annoying. I could be playing for a few hrs and it happens about 2-5 times an hour.

I never crash to desktop, it just freezes and then recovers.

Mine does this too, but the music freezes too after a few seconds of the video freezing. Windows even says the program isn't responding, but TQ never crashes, it just resumes about half a minute to a minute later.

I have this problem also -- it seems to happen completely at random.

Longest pause lasted about 30 seconds or so and sometimes there is faint skipping of music. (this never happened before 1.11 FWIW)

I'm not sure how this is with the newest Nvidia cards, but my BFG 6800 used to exhibit the same behavior in a few different games. Turning off "Fastwrite" in the bios was the cure for me - might be worth a shot.

Well I am kinda glad that I am not the only one experiencing this so I know that it is not any PC parts that may be defective in my machine.

I will try to look for the 'fastwrites' option in my BIOS and see if that makes a difference, but if that is the case I think that the next patch should address the 'fastwrites' issue.

If anyone has any luck with this problem keep this thread alive.

Thanks

Keep in mind though that the full name for this option is "AGP fastwrites" - if you happen to have a PCI-Express graphics card it won't help you...

Those are my computer specs. I think I should note that this didn't happen before, maybe after I started overclocking. But my system is stable in other processor and graphics demanding apps (3dmark, prime95, etc), so I'm not sure if this is related. Either way, the program's hanging only causes if I'm in MP, it seems that in SP nothing happens while the system hangs (so it's not like it will recover and I'll see myself dead or anything).

Going into caves and having a 5 second stutter is not the same thing that is happening to me. This pause happens randomly, no pattern that I have been able to discern. Indoors, outdoors, day and night. The FREEZE lasts about 30 seconds and then it recovers.

I never crash or have to close the game, I just have to wait. It happens sometimes right when I start playing or after I have been playing for 15-30 mins, there is really no pattern that I can see.

I have tried older NVidia Drivers and I think this was also happening when I was using 1.08, I will test that tonight. I have just reformatted because I got a new WD Raptor 150 so I will install it tonight and play to see what happens.

BTW, I do have PCI-E/SLI so I guess I cannot disable 'fastwrites'.
