Default Sound Skipping/Stuttering

Im not sure if this was already reported or if it's a known issue but browsing the IGN TQ Vault i found someone else who reported this issue and it seems it has to do with the latest patch.

When playing TQ for a few hours (2-4) the sound begins to stutter and skip, it starts mildly until it gets unplayable, it happens with everything (Music, Sounds, and Voices) the solution seems to be a reboot of the computer, it's nothing big but it can get annoying.

Cheers!

There is a known issue with the game playing mp3s on some systems. The issue has been resident for a while and was not introduced in the last patch. We are closing in on the causes, and I can say it does not seem to be related to a particular sound card or driver, it has more to do with process priorities within the game reacting differently on some machines in certain conditions. We are working on this and hope to have a fix soon.

Any comment from a dev as to whether this fix will be included in the next patch?

Post Re: Sound Skipping/Stuttering

Even with my Audigy 2, I hear the studdering. It seems synchronous with the video studder and only happens after its been on a while. Sometimes I don't hear it until I use my headphones.

And there i was thinking that when i got a better sound card (something better than integrated audio) the problem would be fixed

Thumbs down Re: Sound Skipping/Stuttering

Sorry to disappoint you. To be fair, I've actually heard the Audigy 2zs pop with many other games as well, not the studdering like in TQ, however. Even with updated drivers. It's not all the time, but occasional. Either I got a bum card or it wasn't really worth the $100 I paid for it. I guess I oughta research what the differences are between the A2 and the Xi-Fi. Do they just increase the dB noise filtering and stick THX and DTS logos on there? I used to have a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. Some of the numbers were comparible to the equivolent Soundblaster card, but the quality wasn't there and the software and driver support sucked bad too.

Nah, the X-Fi is their next generation of sound cards, which use a newly engineered sound chip. Of course, it's probably a bit overblown if you don't use it for music production, games supporting OpenAL or EAX4+ or for surround sound, but it works nice and sounds great...

The DTS logo is there because most (all?) models of the card can decode DTS in hardware, but so does most player software via a software codec...

I think I found a solution:

TQ utilizes RDTSC for Dual Core CPUs. There's a problem with this Read Time Stamp Counter in Windows. So AMD released a patch/tool for that.
You can download it here.

After installing this patch I played for about 4 hours. Everything was fine - no stuttering.
This is why I did not have any Sound problems with my single core CPU.
