I played this the other day, on the clock no less , and I have some feedback for you.

While I know you started this 6 months ago, I don't think you're done with the mod. In my opinion, it's time you addressed the actual play. The map is well done in many parts, but it is only one aspect of the game. You need to take a page from Lilith's book and start focusing more on the gameplay than on the map.

I recommend you start by playing through your own mod from the beginning without cheating, and I think many problems will quickly become apparent to you.

Good luck with the mod. I think it has a lot of potential.

Could you be a bit more specific about the problems.. and I dont cheat when running through.. that would be stupid as i would not be able to check the levels.. . I havn'r played Lilith, so I cant compare anything to that.
Could you try and be a bit more helpful and less snide in your comments.. is there any chance of that? I doubt it.

Hey, I was very careful not to sound snide in my comments, knowing what a pleasant history you and I have.

And, I was being helpful--above all else. I'd rather not be specific, as I'm not convinced that will be as helpful, actually.

I really think a lot of it looks really nice, and I like a lot of the ideas in it. I think you should--since you haven't--try playing Lilith for a bit. I think if there's one thing Mostal did with some excellence was arrange for a fun gameplay experience. And, I know you aren't into big challenges and all that, and there are varying difficulty levels in Lilith, so you can experience what I'm talking about without having to struggle so much.

I'm saying, if gameplay is your weakness, then look to those for whom it is their strength. That's a genuine, non-snide, honest recommendation. And I hope you take it.

I'm working on V6.. I want to get a concensus of how the game can be improved.. There are another 8 maps added now, mainly castles and palaces.. and a new set of monsters based on the maenad mesh, this will improve the game also. I think V6 will be a better game.. But when more info. comes back, on how hard or easy it is.. i will hopefully know how to improve..
I tested the monster level myself, starting at level 1 and adjusting the custom monsters as i went along.. that is difficult, as they dont behave as the usual monsters, it's more finely balanced, so you have to get in with the first strike or two.. not this bash, bash, bash, bash, like on the original game.. that in my humble is just tedious. It's a case of numbers now with the custom monsters.. if you get surrounded by maggots you'v had it.. etc. The bosses are backed up with other lessers, this is deliberate, if people dont like it.. too bad.. it's my game.

V6 is the last issue of the game.. I'm hanging up my mod hat and taking up golf or something.. i wonder what codemajor will think of my game..
Setting monster levels isn't easy.

If you're putting your hat up because you're just tired, then ok. But if you're putting your hat up because you think you're done, I say wait!

Before, when I was talking about "cheating" I just meant the kind of cheating we do with like dev tools and stuff, that make us immortal and let us run fast. I say that because I found the game to be very irregular. If V6 is going to be your last version, than consider the progression of the game.

In fact, I had to reload the game like 5-6 times to kill the same 3 crows over and over again to get to level 1. I then ran up the road a bit more and ran into a giant crab that 1-hit me. It was at this point I discovered that you don't lose experience for dying. So, the only risk of death is having to run back to where you were.

So, skipping the crab, I came on a cluster of about a dozen undead. All of which way too hard for me, and it took me about 20 minutes to beat them. Of course, then they dropped loot for like a level 20 or something. The city I found too sold equipment for like level 18-25. I then thought maybe I'd gone the wrong way (especially since you said you beat the game at lvl 14).

So, I went all the way back to helos and left through the right gate. And fought a few satyrs here and there along the way. I think I got to like level four when I found a big door that told me to go the other way.

Now, if I hadn't been on the clock, and procrastinating, I prolly would have stopped there, for good.

The reason is that, during all this running around, there wasn't anything to do. Every now and then, I'd come across an enemy or two (I did find a satyr camp with 3 satyrs in it). But there was no quest or anything. I know you didn't like the original quests in the game, so why not mae your own?

I did go back, and went forward more. I fought some virgins in some stone place that was littered with rebirth fountains. Once I hit the end of a particular path (the bay with the jelly fish) I finally stopped.

I really like the look of the huns and the temple virgins, but the animations are all messed up. I know you're aware of a lot of these problems, but they really spoil what little action there is.

So, my overall experience is that this is in the alpha state, really. And, it might seem like a lot of this stuff will take too much work, but it's all doable. You are in an enviable position: you have a huge, original map that you can do anything with. You have some monsters and stuff here and there that represent the overall game you'd maybe like to make (like an outline of where major conflicts should be, etc.), and now you just have to fill it out and make your quests and whatnot.

Don't let this big, cool map go to waste. Don't give up yet.

And I hope you recognize the sincerity in my post; it took a lot to say that, considering what an ******* you are about Americans.

Interesting points.. it seems i might have failed to make a good game.. perhaps it is beyond my ability. Dont suppose you want to take it and sort it out do you? The virgins are being replaced by 'amazons' these are maenads with npc female textures on, and they can be topless as well.. they work better than the old virgins. The huns are about as good as I can make them. Seriously.. if you want the whole map to work up to a good game for V6.. the offer is genuine.. monster it up, etc. There are a number of quests.. i have used some standard quests off the toolset.. to steer the players in a progression of paths, it's not totally open.
I was always wanting a cooperative effort.. from the start of the mod..

There are variables in the art manager database for monsters that i cannot get into and sort out..
Without a manual on how to do it, i will never find out how to change the cry of the amazons to something else for eg.
The maps for V6 are very nearly done.. it will only take a few hours to finish it off.

You've done a lot of work, so maybe take a few days off and relax a little, and then decide if you want to tackle doing more with the mod.

I have too much to do right now with the skill mod, though the prospect of creating a game is very interesting. So, in a few weeks, if you haven't been inspired, I'll definitely reconsider. It also might be something that other prospective modders would be interested in as well, maybe people who share more your vision of what you'd like to see done. I tend to enjoy things dark and wicked.

Good luck with it in the meantime.

No rush to release V6.. i'd rather have a good game that the community enjoys playing. Technical/gameplay help if definately what is needed here.
I potter about creating maps as a passtime.. new ideas come to me, now and then.

Great comments Munderbunny. My experience was very much the same. Hiscosmicbunny please don't give up. You really do have a very pritty map going and would be a shame to waste it. If the game play could improve then you are going to have a great MOD here.

V6 will be a much bigger, better mod.. hopefully a cooperative effort.
p.s cap007 .. where did you get to in the game? .. i've been perfecting some of the maps, of late. I'm a bit crest-fallen with the failings in the game.. still never mind. I'm going to try and get hair on the amazons now.. i wonder if they would wear swifts custom armour? who knows...
