Default Re: [REL] x2, x3, x4, xMAX monsters (IT 1.1)

you're a bit wrong :P

the neanderthal boss has the biggest chance of dropping unique maces. It's a good place to farm for Sapros. Basically, anyone with high enough stun resist could try and kill 10 Barmanus and have a great chance at getting an unique mace.

But I have to concede, it is a bit annoying to have to exit the game right before bosses, when you're building a character. However, it's not that annoying, it's rather a minor nuisance. It's simple, you reach the last rebirth fountain before the boss, you quit to main menu, and you start the game right away again.

It's not hard. It wastes 1 minute at most.

Problem is, the neanderthal boss x3 kills my epic character (3.5k helath, 42 % cold resist) with 2 hits from his snowfall spell (= 2 stones hitting me kills me). Trying to fight 3 of them is suicide.
I just got myself a ring to up my cold resist to 80 %, ill see if it helps.

Its funny fighting the yeti x3. If you are unlucky, they perma-freeze you

don't worry about the avalanche. It instantly kills anyone who doesn't have 100% chance of avoiding projectiles. I haven't obviously tried the following, it would be too shameful, but I am almost certain that normal Barmanu could kill my 64 Conqueror, Athina, in one hit, with the avalanche, if I remember what I've read correctly. I think the damage that that avalanche does in normal is a lot more than the damage that my divine conqueror can resist.

But if you have 100% stun resistance, you can always run away from his avalanches, because there's no way for him to stun you.

Also, please note, that x3 bosses in epic aren't really great. Best place to farm is any place in Legendary. So yeah, I have to agree that for character building, xmax lite is better than xmax with triple bosses.

The problem I see with xmax Pro (as opposed to Lite ) is that it's very unfriendly to first time pass toons. You see, I play my Templar on x3 only and it's beyond nightmare fighting 3x bosses. Really, I actually ran away from the cyclopses in Megara because it's impossible to kill them. I think even Poinas (well, currently I remember only him by his sig and zillion of chars he made, so he has the most experience of everyone here) would never ever ever beat those cyclopses with untwinked mellee toon, first pass... Or think about those gorgon bit*hes, to which you give about 20 damage and they heal up faster than speed of light, so that it amounts to practically 0 damage and no possible way of beating 9 of them... So it's a bit unfair to have those x3 bosses and pain in the *** restarting the normal x1 game at the last fountain before them.

So... I would be immensely more than happy if someone put the effort in changing a digit for boss spawns and release xmax Lite.

Thank you in advance.

a) No amount of resistance is going to save you if you get hit by Barmanu's meteors. Only 100% chance to avoid projectiles will guarantee survival, as was said. Well, if you have 80% physical and cold res you might survive one of them, but there are 15 meteors.
b) All resistances are capped at 80%, so you'll still get stunned against Barmanu.
c) The game is beatable with x3 bosses, farming your own items (no transferring between chars), and not dying a single time. But I think it's extremely difficult if it's your first time playing through the game. Some bosses, like Alastor (undead mage in act 1) in normal difficulty are still quite difficult for some classes even if you're experienced.

oh... I saw 179 stun resist on my conqueror's secondary character screen, and I assumed that that made me immune to it. After observing that the centaur elders' war horn still stuns me, I was wondering whether some skills ignore stun resistance...

but it must be what you say, that even secondary resistances are capped at 80%. I just wish that it was shown like that on the character page as well, so that I don't embarrass myself

as for triple bosses: Polyphemus is not unbeatable on xmax, even with a new character. But you do need it to be a good enough character, and you do need to be very careful. It is practically... go towards them, wait for all three to shout, go and hit one of them 2-3 times, then run away and wait for them to shout again... and so on. It's slow, but it works.

Actually, the first bosses that give my characters A LOT of trouble in x3 bosses are the gorgons. One of them has a healing spell, and fighting 3 of them is incredibly difficult. You basically need godly damage, and that's difficult. It might also be very efficient to try and drain their energy, so using a draining weapon might also work... to be honest, it crossed my mind while writing this post , so I don't know if and how it works. But I still think it's the first real challenge when playing against tripled bosses.

You can't find it anywhere. Not in standalone form.

When I leveled my conqueror, I usually kept a necklace or a ring which drained energy and did damage, later socketed with Spectral Matter. That really made a HUGE difference on boss fights.

Are you certain that the drop rates scale up according to the xmax you use ? It sounds likely that 2, 3 or 4 times the amount of monsters should result in as many more green/blue/whatever drops, but after doing a bunch of gorgon runs i wasnt able to find more green stuff from them as compared to when i just killed 3 instead of 9. Same goes for the Ichtyides (??) near babylon outskirts. They are quest mobs and usually they drop loads of race-specific armor and weapons. When scaling up to xmax 3 the amount of them guys vastly increase, but according to my experience the amount of rare stuff they drop does not increase at all.

Are you guys 100% sure that the drop rate increases along with the amount of monsters ?
