Hi, in order to upload the spanish translation to masteries, I'd need first to know how to convert the .txt into .arc, or how to open the original text.arc and replace it but, whatever, anyone can explain how to deal with text.arc?
Thanks. |

How to convert .txt to .arc? (or) How to translate mods?
I've made the exercice 'translating masteries to spanish' with the help of gigatron and is pretty working; now i'm gonna explain how to do it genericaly for any mod. Is quite easy if you follow this steps. Let's start: The text of the mod (from now on 'modstrings.txt') is located on My documents \My games\Titan quest Inmortal Throne\CustomMaps\masteries\resources; compressed (or compiled) in the file Text.arc (replace masteries for any mod folder) So you basically you have to: 1.- extract modstrings.txt from text.arc using arcexplorer 2.- Translate modstrings.txt using any editor such as wordpad (better than notepad) 3.- Create again text.arc from translated modstrings.txt using art manager, like if you where creating a new mod. 4.- Replace the original text.arc with modified text.arc. Now lets explain it in depth. 1.- extract modstrings.txt from text.arc using arcexplorer Download arcexplorer from http://wiki.titanquest.net/wiki/ARC_Explorer NOTE: there is other software called arcexplorer that is a GIS viewer, you will find it if you google arcexplorer. This is not for TQ. Extract and open arcexplorer. Goto file-Open. Then browse to the famous folder \My games\Titan quest Inmortal Throne\CustomMaps\(mod I wanna translate-name)\resources and open TEXT.ARC Now you will see what text.arc contains. Oh surprise, contains modstrings.txt. Double click on it and save it to your desktop as modstrings.txt 2.- Translate modstrings.txt using any editor such as wordpad (better than notepad) This part is easy, open your favourite editor, load modstrings.txt and translate it. You have to understand the structure of the file, in each line they got variable = value; so you ONLY have to translate value, not variable. For example: tagSkillpriestholywater=Holy water translated to spanish tagSkillpriestholywater=Agua bendita Got it? if you change tag names, you will see the error in game. Tagnotfound:tagSkillpriestholywater 3.- Create again text.arc from translated modstrings.txt using art manager, like if you where creating a new mod So, let's start an empty mod. Open art manager from the toolset of TQ. Goto MOD-> NEW... and name it Translations (won't be useful for any more) Under the tab sources go to TEXT folder. Here's where your translated modstrings.txt must be. Delete the existing one and import yours, or double clic the existing one and paste the contents of your translation. Then click with left btn over modstrings.txt and select 'Auto create asset' Finally Build your mod under Build->Build. 4.- Replace the original text.arc with modified text.arc. if last step worked, you got your translated text.arc on the folder Resources of your mod: \My games\Titan quest Inmortal Throne\CustomMaps\Translations\resources Copy it and paste to the resources folder of the original mod (if you arrived here, I assume you know copy+paste mastery). Don't forget to make a backup of original text.arc If all went well, close artmanager and arcexplorer and try your translated mod. If is working. ![]() ![]() congrats! you did it!After the success of translating Masteries to spanish, I will try to translate Lilith: Battles of Jalavia. But hey!, it has about 12.000 lines and 45.000 words ; so it's not a fast job. Probably after summer vacations, so I will open a new post as soon as I got something to report. BTW, if you want to help me, leave me a PM; any help would be appreciated. |
