Default Slowdown Cure

I would notice that my Pentium 4 with 1 gig of RAM would slow down unexpectedly while playing Lilith. Motions would become jerky. So I disconnected my DSL to the internet. After a minute or so, the slowdown would disappear.

Meaning what exactly? Windows Update was the problem?

Meaning that my computer might have been updating various anti-malware programs I have. Possibly, Windows Update was downloading at the time.

In my situation, a Pentium 4 with a gig of RAM will play TQIT pretty well, but it does strain the reources. Having downloads going on at the same time is going to cause problems.

Eureka! I've found a cure! If you download Microsoft's Advanced System Care (Don't use the Registry Cleaner. It took me a week to repair the damage) it includes a link to "Game Booster."

Game Booster gives you a list of all background programs that are not necessary for your game. It allows you to turn them off while you play your game.

After disconnecting my DSL connection, I tried Game Booster, and it freed up 92 megabytes of RAM. Since I have 1,000 megs of RAM, and about 1/4 of that is required to run XP, this is more than a 13% increase in my RAM.

The game ran noticeably faster, with no problems.

Remember that Game Booster needs to be turned off after your game. Fortunately, it sits in the center of your screen so you can't forget to turn it off.

Here is a direct link to the game booster software if anybody is interested. You don't need Advanced System Care (which isn't made my Microsoft) to use it.

Brother Ratcliff is right, by George! MS recommends Advanced System Care and gives a link on its website, but they don't make it themselves.

I like it except for its registry cleaner. DON'T use the registry cleaner, but the other stuff is pretty good.
