The math is great on that skill, it just always seems to suck more than ToC or ToW. Especially from ToC--I'm like, "Well, I lose the 20% resist, but I gain all that dam-to-life, so I should be fine, AND get the reflection." And then I get pwned. Switch back to ToC and start kicking *** again.

I dunno, I just haven't been able to pwn with it. :/

When you have a better set of gear and a weapon that converts dmg to health you wont need ToC. Thats how I was able to change my trance. You wont benefit from Tow or ToE without having enough support gear.

Well, the damage reflection definitely varies by which enemy is attacking me, but the 3-10% dmg to health with my Templar is really what keeps me using Empathy. Seriously, one use of Phantom Strike and I can easily regain a good 10-15% of my total HP. I've tried both Wrath and Convalescence and neither one performs better for me. The Electric Burn dmg from Wrath is worthless it's like 26dmg/sec or something which in Legendary is pitiful. Plus it will cancel out the massive Electrical Burn from Distort Reality, which I use a lot. The 32% reduced resistance is good, but it's not like I have trouble killing stuff and I find myself needing health potions a hell of a lot more when I have that on instead of Empathy.

The resistance debuff of Trance of Wrath makes a huge difference on legendary. My harbinger uses the soul shiver artifact (13% attack damage converted to health), so no need for Trance of Empathy. Trance of Convalescence is good for the damage absorption, but I think the regen bonus is really useful only if you have a lot of regen boosting equipment (in my opinion, the only real danger comes from bosses or powerful monsters that can kill you very quick anyway...). If you wield Sapros, though, the resistance debuff is not that important, I guess.
