A little blue flash will appear whenever it hits. 3 hits to charge up, 1 hit to release the effect.

Yeah...damn...that does suck. Another reason to cry over poison, actually.

ToW is good, but the other Trances are too. I don't use ToW with my Templar atm for example.
I maxxed out both wrath and convalescence with my harbinger, but only used wrath for boss fights on epic, and used it for just about every tough part on legendary. Made a HUGE difference on legendary. I'm surprised you're not using it, but I've never played defense.

I got a Sapros to lower resists, so I don't really need it except for Nate in SP.

I am almost done with Legendary and I use Trance of Convalescence.
Maxed out it's hard to beat 15% of all damage being absorbed.

I just loaded up my harbinger and went to egypt on legendary, and I was doing noticible electrical burn damage. I can't speak to any other kind of DoT damage in legendary, but the electrical burn sticks. Switch to ToW and cast a 1 pt distort with 12 pt temporal rift, and watch the electrical burn do its thing. Trance of Wrath ftw!

Actually all trances are nice -> damage reflection and Damage to health are not to be sneered at either

I use Trance of Empathy exclusivly throughout. it seems to be working great for me.

My level 60 Templar pretty much uses Empathy exclusively. I've built him to be a damage sponge/tank so the 85% damage reflection is great when you wade into mobs. Also, the 3-10% damage into health is surprisingly effective at keeping your HP up, especially when you have Phantom Strike maxxed. Convalescence's +12 health regen just isn't enough to be useful for very long in my opinion, and I'd have plenty of damage reduction abilities as a Templar, so the 15% dmg absorb is kinda useless.
