Question My 'Theoretical' Templar Build

Hey all,

I'm starting up a Templar character, and have planned him out. I wouldn't mind some feedback from the forums here, since I followed some suggestions in other threads for my Thane, which improved him greatly.

http://www.titancalc.com/TitanCalc.a...2-6-0-0-0-12-0

General thoughts are welcome. I'm just wondering if there any skills I've overlooked, or have put too many skills into. I don't have any experience with Defense or Dream.

Some specific questions I have:
Should I put anything into Batter? Or is Phantom strike a good substitution?
Is Battle Awareness good enough for a full 12/12? Or should I just have 1/12 for its synergies?
Which Trance is best for this build?

Thanks! Can't wait for replies.

I'm sure others will have much better advice than I can give you, since my Templar is only lvl 19. But so far, I find Batter/Rend Armor to be very useful. Shield Charge, as well, even with only 1 point. I like being able to Phantom Strike in to a group of enemies, blow them up, then Shield Charge to another group of enemies, hit them all with Batter/Rend Armor.. etc. I tear through a screen full of mobs pretty quickly.

But, I think your build looks good. I'm pretty new to this game still, and I still have some difficulty knowing when to max a skill and when it's fine to leave it at 1.

I would like to hear what some more experienced Templars have to say, because it concerns me, as well.

Usually I advice against Psionic Touch, but with a Templar it procs so often (because of the shield procs) that it might be of more use...

I'd recommend a build similar to Viper's, but with the possibility of a few points shaved from Colossus (20% more strength is the gain for 7 skill points, which I'm not sure as to if it's a fair trade off) to pick up ToE or Shield Charge + Disruption (disruption being maxed, Shield Charge getting 1 point). If you feel like being complete at a higher level than 66, picking up Distort Reality and Temporal Rift (particularly Temporal Rift) is a worthwhile endeavor. Battle Awareness can theoretically have points shaved (the armor portion is more useful at low levels than high levels, while the DA is useful if you're going for a 2000 DA gear setup, but only marginally) to lower it back down.

In short: http://www.titancalc.com/TitanCalc.a...0-0-0-12-0-0-0

The reason for Colossus is the Damage Absorption. It gives 30% at 1/8, 50% at 8/8 and 66% at 12/8. That isn't worth maxing?

Thanks for all the suggestions, looks like I've got some thinking to do. I like Serisan's use of Adrenaline, but is 6/6 in Resilience worth it? I guess that part is all luck, since Adrenaline stays at 5% chance of happening.

I'll be shaving 11 points out of battle awareness to get Shield Charge and Batter.

Hrmmm...hadn't noticed that part because it wasn't grouped with the other changing numbers. Seems worth the investment now.

Just a quick follow up on my question of which trance is best... Everyone seems to agree with ToC, am I correct? The main thing I'm going for in that one is the 15% Damage Absorption. That, coupled with Colossus and Armor Handling will make the Templar a formidable character. But, is ToW or ToE a better pick? I've never seen any of them in action, so I don't rightfully know.

ToE has its situations where it shines. ToC's damage absorb is great the majority of the time, but there are times when you could foreseeably need more leech.

Too much of a read, so I am sorry if any of these were mentioned already.

Good build, but you're not utilising Defence skills much.
1 point in Adrenaline with maxed synergies is pretty good.
Shield charge is absolutely awesome (even though you have Phantom strike, 2 charge skills are way better than 1)
Batter (if you want some extra crowd control)

Oh and try to aim for about lvl 63ish, unless you're preparing to do loads of farming.
