Re: Mods Without Cheating?
I don't really know any mods to make the game easier, but you could look through the Defiler mods. If you're already pretty far into Legendary you could try to sit through it and do boss runs after you're through to get better items. It's what I did with my first char. There was no act 4 then though, so it was a lot easier. Or check what items you have, check what skills you have, and then rethink your build a bit. Changing skills and items around can make a huge difference. Sometimes you just have to sit down and think about it a bit. I can give you some tips to survive longer too:
If you're a melee fighter, check your defensive ability. If it's under 1000, raise it. Raising it to 1700 would be good, but is not so easy. That makes melee hurt you less. If you can get some dodge projectiles, get that too.
Resistances are good. Especially Damage Absorption, because it works against all damage. The most important resistance against regular enemies is pierce. Some of the secret passage set items have ridiculous resists, and they can be gotten from Epic SP which is easy. If you're having trouble against bosses and don't know what element an attack is, try to up your vitality resistance, many bosses use that damage type in attacks you can't immediately classify. If that fails, it's most likely bleeding. Fire, ice and thunder attacks should be recognizable. The act3 Telkine uses fire in his projectile attack I think, but I'm not sure. Bull super attack is piercing IIRC. Less damage from demons helps against him too.
Epics and Legendaries are not always the best items. Some are awesome, but if you don't have those, try an up to date rare from shops instead of some outdated unique. Veteran's is a great prefix on both weapons and armor. Monster infrequents can also be awesome with the right affixes. Stonebinder's Cuffs (gorgons) and Batrachos Greaves (frogmen) are awesome even without affixes, and might be worth farming for if you feel like investing a lot of time. Sabertooth can be a good weapon and is not hard to get. Put in a Peng Claw and watch the damage fly.
Another option to get better equipment is boss farming. Epic secret passage shouldn't be a problem, and some of the special set items are good, even if they look silly. Just look through the forums to find other popular runs.
The final thing you can do is level up. For legendary level 60 would be good. Higher for Act 3 and 4. Start up xmax, or x4 if your computer cant take xmax like mine. Then start killing trash. Act 1 or 2 trash is best, because it won't hurt you too much. The Act 2 tombs are probably best. Get some less damage from UD equipment, and something with +% damage against undead. Both are easy to get on Relics/Charms. Just use epic Relics and Charms. That start slaughtering some undead. Or lots of them actually.
If you're a caster, your options are limited. Try to get -100% recharge, and as much -% mana cost as you can get at the same time. Preferably fast cast rate too. Then you might stand a chance in legendary. My first char was a Storm/Nature guy, and I died a lot in Act 3 Legendary. There was no Act 4 then, and I am not sure I could have beaten Act 4 with my char how he was after beating Act 3.
