Default [POLL] Should TQVault allow item editing?

I am toying with the idea of adding an item editing function to TQVault where you would be able change baseitems, prefixes, suffixes, etc.

I think the Vault should be used only for storage related stuff and that if the whole item editing thing is in demand, that a separate program be created for that purpose.

So, it looks like the overwhelming majority (3:1) wants TQVault to remain a storage only utlity. Based on that, TQVault remain as it is and I will continue to improve the decoding and add access to the other in-game storage areas (equips, caravan and shared).

... and you will start work right away on an item editing program?

Would be a cool util to have for sure. Especially if you could easily create new sets for other folks to download... could be a lot of fun actually.

if there would be a possibility to create items maybe you could also mark them as created. there are people who would love this addition and others who wouldnt. it wont do any harm if there`ll be a way to recognize its tqvault made item for the sake of item trades, multiplayer etc.

you could make permanent item name part for example "tqvault hale stonebinder cuffs of alactrity" without the possibilty to add edit this tqvault part... if item name could be easily edited from character files then mark it other way

With a little knowledge item editing is an easy task which seems to be rampent in multiplayer (or so I hear) I dont think creating a way for people to do this easier will help the game. Just my 2 cents though.

those who edit it the hard way wont be neither stopped nor encouraged by tqvault if it`ll mark item. those who dont have time for playing too much, play singleplayer and just cant farm whole days for their uber item would finally get it.

in short: cheaters will cheat anyway, normal people might find it useful for quiet sp gaming. i for example am looking for aformentioned sb cuffs of alacrity for month and still this rich forum cant supply me with it oO. dont have time to find it and learn item editing

Let me just clarify a few things. The items and their attributes are defined by what is in the database, so only the actual items and attributes present in the game will be available. What an editor can do, is put prefixes and suffixes that would not normally be available in-game for a particular item class, like having sacred on a weapon for example. I do not think the game will catch this kind of stuff and reject the item.

I also tend to agree that an item editor will only help the "casual" person. Those who put in the time can change whatever they like.

Also, marking the items would be difficult since the item is basically just a set of pointers to the DB records that define it. I would have to find some unused parameter in the item format and use that. Even if I did this, only TQVault and the editor could detect the created item. The person could also reset the signature with little effort too once they knew where it was.

I may take the editor up as a side project once, I add the stuff into TQVault that I want.

Anyway, that's my $0.02.

You could make the itemClassification Common (White). That would certainly stand out in MP, while anyone who could change the color back would already be using custom items anyway.
