Enemy Champions with pets ?

I know some bosses can summon creatures i.e. Alastor, 1st Telkine but I have never seen a champion/hero with one.

I was cruising thru Normal Egypt and was in the Nile Floodplain when I came across a Croc Hero. Next thing I know my buffs are getting wiped out, losing energy like crazy, nightmare going down in one hit and losing 3/4 of my health in 2 secs.

After a couple deaths I noticed he had what looked like a Wisp. Didn't see before due to all the other lesser crocs around. I couldn't target it though. And I'm thinking this guy must have a great mods on a ring/amulet cuz armor and weapon looked plain.

Well I finally kill him and only one yellow item drops, a piece of armor with nothing special on it. Wish I had taken a pic but was too busy trying to stay alive.

I have never seen a Hero/Champion with a pet before and wondering if this was just a bugged encounter ? I don't believe a Wisp has energy drain or skill Disruption so I have no idea how he was doing it to me, unless it's part of his basic skill set

It's called SPELLBREAKER (and Spellshock). An evil Storm mastery spell. There are quite a number of monsters/bosses who can cast it, eg. the Satyr storm mage Algos Frostwind. (storm-based) Abyssal Liche Lords in Wusao and Gilded Undead Warlocks can cast it too.

all players should best learn to recognize the sound of being spellshocked. For classes with passive buffs, the disruption can be dangerous.

I've heard about the croc boss you encountered, but never seen him myself.

Or... you met the champion and dispatched him quickly before you noticed he had a wisp.

I wonder if there are other randomly appearing bosses besides Toxeus the Murderer... could be one of each class? Seems reasonable to me.

Also, there's other champions with Pets as well. One of the most surprising to me was the Anauran one that summons Ichtians as pets. I was 'hey, what are these guys doing in this act!'.

Some normal monsters summon pets too, btw. Spider brood mothers summon little spiders. Shaman Beastcallers summon spirit boars, etc. So its not a bug, nor at all uncommon to see a champion with pets.

The croc is named Sark. When I first encountered him (with my second character, an Assassin), it was also the first time I had ever seen a Wisp. I realized early on that Sparky was causing me the most trouble, so I spent probably 10 minutes futilely trying to kill it while Sark pursued me and lit me up every so often.

I've also run into the fishy frog Redrivertears mentioned and I'm sure the Empussies, Nightstalkers, and Keres have heroes who have summoned things against me as well.

Guess what threw me off was the Wisp..Just never seen an enemy with a pet a character can also have.

Kinda figured it was Spell Breaker but man was he spamming it lol

Indeed, yes.
Inspired by this thread, I sent my Elementalist on a croc hunt up and down the Nile last night. On her third trip to Sais, she caught up with the villain and brought him to justice.


Which Wisp is Whisch?
