For being your first character, you probably picked one of the most non-nubfriendly profession in the game. I'm not really familiar with the class, but given your situation (I am assuming you are a Bow-Avenger)

I would advise that you concentrate on developing your Hunting tree first. Max your marksmanship tree, aura of the hunt tree and develop your study prey.

After you got that out of the way you can start developing the perks you want from the Earth Mastery. If you need a tank pet, develop your core dweller, invest 1 pt in stoneform for emergencies. 1 pt. in heat shield also comes in handy since it gives you 15% damage resistance provided that you don't get hit with fire damage.

Whether you want to develop your EE tree to add elemental damage to your attacks is entirely up to you. However, this being your first character, I would advise you to ignore elemental damage and concentrate on piercing damage. This will prevent you splitting your attributes between dex (pierce damage), int (ele damage) and str (physical damage). Unless you are familiar building hybrids in Titan Quest, splitting up your attributes carelessly might make your character unplayable in the long run in higher dificulties.

It's possible, but not recommended.
What most people overlook is that damage is basically
base damage * int/str bonus * gear/skill boni
Multiplied, not added. So if int is low, all other boni to fire damage are that much less effective.

Therefore, once and for all:
Don't make damage hybrids unless you really know what you are doing. While ok at first, you are likely going to regret it in later difficulties.

Rather spend the points on anything that increases physical/pierce, or strenghtens your Core Dweller.
