Try running a 500-600 DA melee character through the last parts of legendary , see how well that works.
It can only end in tears. And that's what you'll get by pure str. There are things that will cover a somewhat low DA ; dmg resistance and dodge attack. Those are actually better than having a very high DA , but they are also very hard to get in large quantities. I know of no way to compensate for a really low OA. Your offense is screwed , period.

Call me a noob, lazy or retarded...
but how the heck is OA calculated? I check the manual. didn't see anything. and searching for OA and How to... is often useless in this forum.

Base OA and DA are both equal to your dex.
Then you add flat modifiers and percentage modifiers from gear and skills. OA = (dex + flat_mods)*(1+%mods) And it's the same for DA.

thank you apoc...I'm trying to feel out if adding dex to my characters IS actually better than adding str. But shhhhhh!! I don't want anyone to find out becuase that debate has happened 400 times too many.

You are adding several parameters that are more or less independent: The typical DA of your target and the amount of fixed and percentage based OA modifiers from gear/skills (what is 'typical' here in late Legendary?). The more dex you have, the more effect you'll get from percentage based dex modifiers as well. Not to speak of the effect a better defense may have on your offense during realistic gameplay conditions. Or the general shift in gear options incured from a modified attribute distribution. ... so, good luck! Maybe 'feeling it out' is the correct approach here. Oh, and sorry about being so obscure, but this has indeed been analyzed to death.

I can't even begin to imagine how hard that must be.
Poisons aren't good enough when everything can crit you for 2-3k dmg per hit. And I know that's what happens to characters that soft in act4 legendary. Honestly , a melee character that fragile is (in my opinion) a nightmare. But I know some enjoy riding the razor's edge.

Good thing crticals can only go for 50% extra damage... otherwise you would be one shoted by any and everything. Thats just ridiculous.
I'm starting to think that I care more about dex than armor... at least and especially for my Haruspex... all this DA % boost can really get me up there. having 50 armor on every slot wont change anything if the never touch me. Do arrows get resisted by armor? If so then technically an arrow can hit me in the head?... thats not cool... Does the DA effect that dmg also?
