Question about % damage items

I was just wondering how % damage items effected spells. Do they apply to any elemental spells or does it have to be something that is specifically for that element.

For example:
Assuming I am an earth character and I used the pendant of immortal rage, would that +50% damage increase the damage of volcanic orb and fissure or would it be completely worthless since it's not specifically +50% elemental or fire damage.

I also had one other quick question for you guys...
If I were to be in stone form could I still cast spells or does that make you totally worthless while it's in effect?

If an item says +% damage - it boosts physical damage
If an item says +% fire damage - it boosts fire/burn damage
If an item says +% elemental damage - it boosts your fire damage as well as your lighning and cold damage

That said, spells like volcanic orb have a physical damage component and so does your core dweller, so +%damage isn't a total waste, but it's not something you should pursue (assuming you are a caster build)

you can't cast spells in stoneform but you can drink potions. one point in it is very helpful for cases where you have to resummon your dweller and let it get aggro again or for bosses that turn your pet against you, as well as the "oh **** hero monster about to wtfpwn me" case

I have now spent some time working on those questions and I must say Stone Form is a must have spell. It has limited uses but is necessary for legendary bosses. Simply toss up a few eruptions right next to you then hit stone form. The boss will sit right in the middle of the eruptions while beating uselessly on your stone form . I also enjoy the HP regen bonus I get while in stone form, I use the Onager axe which already has a nice regen bonus and the combination of the two does a pretty good job of healing me while I wait for my eruptions to clear an area lol.
