Ok my current conjurer is level 26 and has just entered the 3rd act. Up till now I've been happy with my Core Dweller/Lich King plan, and I've had no trouble with bosses at all. Now I'm wondering what will happen with Typhon. I don't have any points in Turnion right now because I really haven't needed it. Most things have been dying with one or two hits from my staff. So my plan was to put a bunch more points into CD/LK but if Typhon is just going to kill them in one or two hits it's not going to work. So what should I do?

Your pets are too thinly specialized. In order for them to make a difference you'd need to max them out, which is hard in Normal.
My Conjurer is level 25, almost 26 and is Petless. My build thus far looks like this. My general strategy involves using Ternion to destroy everything in my path, and it works well. I recently imported a Fire based green staff from Epic by vendor hopping in Epic Orient for a staff that would "fit" my Conjurer given his 400+ Int and the fact he was almost 25. Ended up getting a 421 int staff, level 25 Frigid Seer's Staff of Trickery with 96 base Fire damage to go with all my other twinkery I imported from TQVault. Average Damage 972 Tooltip DPS is 883. I send monsters flying through the air, it's great fun. Considering the Staff of the Magi I was using since level 3 was 14 base damage, my total DPS was around 300 before I switched to the new staff. By 30 I'm going to be getting Eruption which I plan to use to defeat Typhon. Beating Typhon as a mage usually involves running around, in Epic and Legendary your pets can survive much better, but the best tool you have available to beat him now is Eruption, so if you can't see yourself getting Ternion maxed out, feel free to just grab Eruption and pwn everything.

Thanks for the reply. I was planning on getting eruption on my next level up, but I honestly didn't think about using it as a major Typhon beating strategy. Does it recharge fast enough on its own or do you need -recharge gear?

Someone posted the natural recharge on it, let me see if I can dig it up. Will edit with results.
You're doing a lot of hit and run vs Typhon anyways, Eruption is definitely better with lower recharge but it's useful even without, because you drop it at Typhon's feet and it damages him for 6 seconds at a time while you run around and avoid him. Getting a slowing weapon and "meleeing" with Ternion works pretty good too if you can do that, but you'll want Eruption regardless.

Hm, when I did Typhon with my conjurer on normal/epic, he was a joke. My experience on legendary so far with beefed-up Typhon:
- once he targets you, run and wait until he targets one of your pets again (summon pets directly after one of his attacks missed if they are dead), because some of his attacks mean instant death - watch out for his life-stealing attack, it hits you no matter where you are (died once cause I felt safe behind him...) - watch out for his thorns... being a conjurer means you probably deal lots of damage (I went for massive fire staff damage + ternion... insane against groups of monsters), which means lots of damage on yourself while his thorns are active... - have some mana potions handy or be prepared to leave the summit every now and then, as his mana burn attack can make the battle lengthy otherwise and yes, at least on legendary you'll have to resummon your pets frequently, Typhon does lots of damage (far more than any other boss, like Hades... probably the only creatures that keep up with him are dactyls) |
