Default Battlemage question(s)...

If you have earth enchantment active (with brimstone, both maxed), and you use warwind, does the burn dmg affect the enemies around you??

Also, for warwind, what does it mean by -20 (physical damage)???

Which is better: heat shield or ring of flame (+ its upgrade)??

Which is better: volcanic orb (+ upgrades) or flame surge (+ upgrades)??

Thanks

I'm not really sure here, but I'll try my luck and state a yes until someone corrects me The burn damage should burn enemies since you did hit them with a physical attack...

Shortly, it means your attack will deal, for example, 100-20 damage (all physical) for a total of 80 physical damage. The -20 does not affect your fire or burn damage in anyway And of course, i'm not including any modifier, like your strength, to the damage calculation here! It would be a base 80 damage. You could say that having brimstone maxed will nullify the -20 damage penalty, but keep in mind that maxing WarWind removes the -20 and transforms it into a +10 physical damage bonus
Simply put, Physical damage is the equivalent of Elemental damage for melee and ranged characters, I believe.

Early in the game, ring of flame will defenitly be more useful (although for some mobs heat shield can have it's utilities), but trust me, in the long run, you are not going to want ring of flame, it will not dish out enough damage to sustain your blood thirst!

I'm not a spellcaster of a battlemage (I'm not focusing my int IN ANY WAY) but I've read somewhere on these forums that flame surge was the crappiest fire spell EVER. I guess they meant Volcanic Orb would be better... Especially for groups of mobs, hehehe!

Hope that helps!

So battlemage has 2 'subclasses': spellcaster and warrior
(Summoner included in both)

Since your skill points will be pretty much divided, you may get more bang for your buck with Eruption than either flame surge or volcanic orb, because it doesn't require synergies and the physical damage component of Eruption is boosted by your Brimstone. That, and Eruption is only 12 points as opposed to the dozens you need to get synergies maxed on FS or VO.
