Default Core dweller??

Do u really need CD?, I'm thinking on starting a elementalist that doesn't have a tank, a pure damage mage, that kill all his enemies before they can reach him, can this be done(with normal gear)???

You can try without, but I like the CD for tanking. His aggro skill draws most of the melee enemies to him, then you blast away with staff/volcanic orb/eruption. The CD doesn't have to kill many, just keep them off you. I think playing with no pet/tank will be tough because of slow speed of staff blasts. But if you like hit and run (kiting) and running around a lot, then good luck and have fun! Its definitely do-able, just not my style of play.

It can be done, but it's tricky without good equipment. Stone Form is basically what allows you to survive -- if you have alot of health regeneration items (like Ankhs of Isis slotted into jewelry) then its healing effect is enormously magnified and it can heal you well without needing any potions. But more importantly, you can use it after casting VO or Eruption, once the enemies get near you, so for 6 seconds you're immune to damage while your fire spell kills the enemies (hopefully). But this is even easier with -recharge items, though the recharge isn't too bad in any case.

Squall is very good to use. It has a huge radius and enemies can't hit you with ranged attacks, so they're forced to walk up to you for melee (or use spells) giving you time to kill them.

The Coredweller is the best thing about the Earth tree from my experience, so it seems silly not to max it out ASAP. Except for his Wildfire skill. Only put one point into that.

Yep Wirefire is just a daft 1 point stepping stone on the way to his best upgrade IMO.

Wildfire is also (pre 1.2 anyway) very handy for drawing agro from multiple mobs. Although this is pre 1.2 stuff me and my flatmate found out. He does wildfire, hits say 5 out of 8 mobs and i couldnt shift agro from those 5 mobs at all (the mobs died still attacking the CD)

Dont know if it holds true anymore.

It still holds true. CD doesn't have the aggressive skill after 1.20, but he loves to cast wildfire and that pisses off near all of the melee mobs. You still have to worry about archers and casters in the back. But for my Summoner, wolves seem to seek out archers and casters. Its really quite a nice combo. CD aggros the melee, wolves aggro the archers/casters, leaving Nymph and I to snipe and fire bomb from afar!

Enemies still target pets that damage them, like with Wildfire or the Lich King's first upgrade attack, but the Provoke ability no longer works, which means monsters won't automatically be drawn to the Core Dweller and hunter Monster Lures are basically worthless.

That provocation no longer works for Core Dweller, is this a bug or was it the intention of the developers?
