Default Yet another opinion on TQ and the demo.

Well, I have been playing the demo every since it was first released, and since it seems that everyone else has posted thier thoughts on the game, I thought that I would as well.

The first thing that I noticed about the game, after creating my first character, is that it is a very lovely game. The second thing I noticed was the tips popping up near the beginning of it were annoying, I know that there are probably some who have never played this type of game, and aren't sure what to do, but a good portion probably have at least played one of the others. An option at character creation to disable the tips, before they even pop up would be nice. I know you can disable them when they first pop up, but not even having to be bothered by them would be a better choice.

The character classes and skill trees seem to be fairly good, nothing too spectacular, but they get the job done. They are a nice change from the same ole same ole like in D2 and such. I'm not sure how much I like the use of active skills though, since they take away some of your energy pool, but I guess that will be easy to get used to, though I think it might have been a little better to just have them pulse and take away some of your energy every min or two.

It is also nice to be able to create a town portal anytime you want to, actually it is a great feature, but one that I think is a bit too powerful. I think that there should of been something you need to do this. A potion, or scroll or something, or maybe even a quest you have to do, before this option is available for use, but that is just a minor complaint.

A bigger complaint that I've found is that drops of gold aren't all that common. I'd of liked to have a been more of that. I'm not like most people, and I don't want to haveto pick up everything on the ground, just to make a little bit of gold. I didn't do it in D2, and I don't think I'd do it in Titan Quest. I really don't see the point in having to pick up every piece of equipment just so I can make 50 gold or so total. When I'm out adventuring, I don't want to have to portal to town just to sell stuff to make money to buy other things I might want, or need. I guess it's a silly complaint, and most people will say, just pick up everything you find. I really don't want to pick up and carry 50 copper knives, inventory should be saved for important stuff, and not just somewhere to stick junk to sell.

Overall I am highly pleased with the game, and think that given time, especially with the editor it could be a game that will match D2 in addictivness, at least for me it will. Though I don't count this game along the same caliber as D2, because they setting is totally different, and as far as I can tell is actually a bit more interesting.

Oh, just thought of something else that I found a little annoying. When fighting the centaur chieftan, if you run a little ways away from him, he goes back to his starting position. It would of been nice to have him chase you instead of doing this, because I thought that it was a pain to stick and move against him using a hunter, even when using the net to hold him in place for a few seconds so he can't touch you easily. Speaking of that skill, i thought it was a very nice idea, its nice to have something to hold creatures in place while you attack them from a distance, though it did take a little time to do against the chieftan. I don't know if it's in the full game, though it would be interesting if there were some creatures (like bosses) that this skill wouldn't effect.

A great game, good job Iron Lore, it is a so far impressive game, and I for one, cannot wait for the release.

Good points, necroviax. When Max and team are done with the editor and we finally have this thing in out hands, I hope to make my custom quest drops focus a bit more on a few coins rather than endless straight pine bows worth only a few coins anyways. That way, less going back and forth with crammed inventories.

Thanks Davey, that sounds good. I just think the main game needs more gold drops. Like I said, that is really the only fault i can find with the game, everything is is nice. Who knows, maybe decent weapons will be dropped that you don't need to buy them from merchants, but I guess we'll have to see.

I also thought of something else minor, that is a little annoying to me, which I hope is in the full game at least. Needing to identify magic items. This is something that I think needs to be in the game, as far as I can tell, you don't have to get items in the demo identified, so you know what they do as soon as you have them in inventory. I don't want to know what this or that magic item does right off the bat, it makes it more interesting feeling to have to get it identified. If it's not in the main game, perhaps put it in a expansion, I feel that it is a feature that makes this type of game.

That's a good idea too. You mean, as you ALT and move your cursor over and item not only do you see the colour (gold, blue, green etc) but the item's stats would appear? Hmm, neat.

I think necroviax means getting unidentified items, and having to identify them by using a scroll or bringing them to a person (like Deckard Cain) to get identified. Basically, he wants it to be sort of like opening a Christmas present.

Pyremes is right, sorry that I wasn't clear. I meant that there should be someone that you pay to identify an item, or use a scroll to identify an item.

Oh, then I've misunderstood (I'm old and confused easily) and actually prefer what I thought he meant rather than what he does mean. I actually think that would get in the way of the flow of the game and personally like the way it's done. I don't want the hassle of going to someone else to ID stuff.

But maybe the editor might let you add something like necroviax would like in a custom quest (a conditional statement or soemthing)?

Well, I have to admit Davey, i like your ieda too about just hovering over an item to see the stats. I'm older too, guess I'm just set in my ways though. I'd rather have to get something identified than instantly know what something does. It just makes sense that you wouldn't know.. I'm also just picky I guess, and I know, can't have everything you want, and even if you did, there'd always be something you'd find wrong with it, or something else.

It's too bad that most game players and developers these days care more about graphics, and features than they used to. Sure, graphics and features are nice, but it'd also be nice to take a few steps back, and give us a simple, clean feeling game that could be easily enjoyed.. Kind of like enjoying the simple things in life.
