Default Steam version playing with Retail version

I was having a problem playing Immortal Throne with my friend. We both installed the 1.17a patch and his title screen says that he has 1.17, but mine says I have 1.17 .sd. He sent me his Engine.dll file from his program files and I replaced mine with his, but my title screen still says 1.17a. Regardless, he can join my internet game, but then gets disconnected (for reasons I wont discuss ), but we cannot see each others LAN games no matter what we do. I am very sorry if this has already been addressed I just couldnt seem to find out how to solve my specific problem. For troubleshooting purposes, I have deleted my Steam game files and made sure it was completely removed from my system (registry, application data, local settings), before doing a clean steam install. Thanks for the help, if you can give it

You guys need to have the same database.arz and engine.dll files. Do some kind of trade, those are the only changed files iirc.

The only changed files? No way, there are 22 files changed. But the database.arz contains the biggest changes (engine.dll contains only very minor changes on hex edit level).

Nevertheless, exchanging the engine.dll files is your best bet.

So I finally got around to testing out the whole database.arz file swap method and it still didnt get rid of the .sd on my file version. However, it ended up actually being a hamachi connectivity problem so even though mine says 1.17 .sd and his says 1.17 it still works fine actually
