1) I would like to install the Fanpatch to try it out but I'm afraid to lose the original ones (needed for my own modding stuff). What's the list of the files affected so I can backup them?
quests.arc
dialog.arc
items.arc
creatures.arc
text_en.arc
maps.arc(if you already have one)
and of course DB

2) Thanks for hosting the Visual Guide on your website. My original idea was to have the links for the adult skins posted on the adult forum, while the links to the non-adult would be on the thread, but maybe I am being over-cautious.
the kiddies will get to it no matter where you put it so whats the point in trying to hide it

4) What do you think of trying and changing the whole main screen (the sickly green one) for another one? The simpler way was changing the first screen and change the color. Another color (and maybe even a version number written directly on the pic) would make a clear difference between the patch and the original game.
I've made the suggestion on the masteries mod thread, but it got completely ignored. I still believe though that it is a very simple, cheap (meaning easy to do) and still visually effective change.
I'v tried to mess with the main screen before just changing colors here and there will probably be doable but any major changes always ended up horribly disfiguring the main screen, any if anyone has any info on this would be very helpful.
but other then that I was thinking of just making a minor mark on the game, something small just to say we where here, not just taking over completely.

Another matter now: while I understand your decision of not wanting to have all files of the mod spread on the ...\Titan Quest - Immortal Throne\Database\ directory, I would ask - please reconsider it for the skins themselves. The skins *should* be out of the creatures.arc file and on the ...\Titan Quest - Immortal Throne\Database\Creatures directory. People who have already the AllSkins mod have them this way, and the ones added on "Creatures.arc" will not only be redundant, but completely ignored since the game will look always at the unpacked ones first. If anyone wishes to change them directly on the directory... be my guest. By the way, the "your placeholder" skins are even meant to be replaced.
redundant or not its only about 80mb more space taken up on someones computer and leaves less room for those that play with other tex mods to not accidentally delete needed files, as far as i know no one is dumb enough to go around deleting .arc files. when i decided to add them to the .arc files it was out of future concern that when this patch becomes publicly used not all the people using it are going to know as much about the game as we do, and of course as you said the unpacked textures take priority so why not delete the redundant ones if your actually worried about 80mb the packed ones take up far less space then the unpacked ones. just my thoughts on it

also do to pm's and such I will be making the allskins mod separate, how ever i will keep the textures in so that even know one person dosn't have the mod dosn't mean they will need it to play with someone that does, i feel this is a safe compromise

Hm, almost right A question of switching the numbers then.
what numbers are you talking about?? if its the ones in my name, they don't mean what you think they mean. its just the last 4 numbers of my first phone i bought and it just kinda stuck with me.

Kids will find anything, which doesn't mean that we should put it too easily accessible to them. Luckily this site hasn't been too strict with this stuff *shrugs*

I believe that Abovewolf has been messing around with this (there's posts from him about it) but I don't know if he got somewhere. You might find something of use on his posts, though. But what I meant was exactly changing the color, nothing more.

I would agree with you if Ironlore still existed. Now that they don't, that's what we're doing, taking over completely anyway... so why not do it and use a fanfare to shout it out?

Yes, sir! Absolutely, sir! Understood, sir! No more comments about it, sir! *Makes a salute*

Not what I wished for, but if it can't be helped, having the textures there is good already.

Well, that shows that I can be completely and absolutely wrong sometimes... *strikes pose showing fallible side*

never really thought of it that way so why don't we make another vote on it
to vote: send me a pm with yes or no, if yes what color do you think main screen should be changed to

also does anyone know how the source server works i've been trying to find a way to inject new files into the db with out using artmanager so that way i can make the allskins mod work with any other mods, with little to no help from the user and so far everything i'v been looking in to points to the source server. so far i'v been able to mount the DB in source server but haven't found a way to actually access the data

ok, let me see if i have this straight: the allskins textures will be included in this patch, but the extra traders (and thus the additional skins) will only be accessible if one installs the allskins mod separately.

so, if someone has just the patch, no new skins. but if they MP with someone who has the patch + allskins, the one without allskins will still see the other player's changed skin correctly

if i have that correct, that sound like a beautiful compromise (besides, anyone worried about an extra 80MB on their hard needs to do some house cleaning anyway)

@luedtke6788, rather than getting bombarded by PM's, why don't you start a poll thread. also, that would get the attention of more people, rather than just those of us who are following this thread. i imagine that quite a few people viewing this thread are just looking for the latest d/l and not reading every post.

just a suggestion - the traders do not need to be in the patch, but there is no problem in keeping the dbrs of the dyes, right?

so if one would buy some dyes in all skins mod - he/she would still see them while playing normal games on unofficial patch (and the dyes would not go away)

I believe that you would need a custom-made program to do that. The best bet of who could do this is bman (who made the TQVault). He already extracts it with his TQVault using the zlib1.dll library; with some cajoling I believe that he could make one that lets us inject new files on the database.arz. A command line program would suffice (like the one that exists for arc files).

One question that I've been wanting to ask, luedtke: would you be interested in using unix's find, grep, sed tools? If you never heard about them, it's ok. But the way you work with dos, I believe that you could profit a lot of using these powerful tools. They exist in native format for dos and that's how I'm able to change hundreds of files in one go (using these tools and some .bat files).

btw, I use this opportunity to vote "yes" for the change of the main screen

The dbrs of the dyes are not needed to keep your skin. Once you've changed the skin, you can even delete the allskins mod from the custommaps, and your skin will be still there (it only depends on the creatures.zip file that you put on the ...\Database\Creatures directory, or in the case of the unofficial patch, inside the Creatures.arc file).

Keeping the dbr's of the files and the bottles that are inside the AllSkins mod's Items.arc file inside of the Unofficial patch would have another effect: users of the Unofficial patch would be able to see and use bottles of the dyes, even if they wouldn't be able to buy them (since on the patch itself there would be no traders selling them).

Yup. Exactly.

I am just wondering; I have installed the fan patch, but how do I access the skins?

exactly, you could have some bottles stored in the chest and you could change skins without loading the mod (i don't see why that would be bad)

Bug:
Ternion Attack, the skill of "Spirit Mastery" will not take advantage of the "projectile speed bouns" witch Arcane Lore offered.
Reason:
Qualifying weapons of Arcane Lore Buged, but the AoE damage still work.
Fix:
Set Bow to 0 & Set Staff to 1

It's not me you'd have to convice, but General Luedtke. I agree with you that it would be a good idea. I would prefer it that way, too.
