Hello all fellow meleer's.
I am wondering of a good way to avoid casters. This is not a bash thread etc, its just casters are too strong to have any fun partying with online. Therefore, I am trying to think of a way to know before I join a server if they are a caster, or melee. I was thinking of perhaps some tag like .mL meaning melee, and wondered if any from the community would consider wearing such a tag. Really nothing against those that like casters, I may try one later myself, but it is absolutely no fun to play online, and watch them kill everything in 1 shot. So I would like to avoid them, and am trying to think up a way not to play with them. I am truely sorry if this offends anyone, as that is not the intent. I would just like to play with melee types, as its actually fun to party. You can both kill stuff etc, not with casters. They obliterate everything way to fast = no fun at all. Example, last night 4 ppl party, 3 of use melee. The last was a druid caster. We would rush up to a mob, and by the time we get to it, the caster did their spell I think of lightning, and the entire mob was dead. Not one of the 3 meleer's swung once. Over n' over n' over. So, would the community (online players) consider wearing a tag or some such to identify themselves as melee? Cause I am sick of joining a server, seeing "oracle" "wizard" "summoner" "druid" etc and leaving. Lastly, to any caster reading this who is gunna write a big thing defending the classes, please don't. I have nothing against casters. I just do not want to group with them etc online as they are absolutely no fun to party with. However any constructive ways to identify melee'rs is appreciated. |

What about folks like myself who play classes like Avenger and Sage? I am archer foremost, but I do back it up with a volcanic orb or dash of lightning here and there... I'm not really melee, but I'm not truly a caster either...

I played with you one day rOOster and have to admit is was a real shock to see how powerful my toon was. Since then, I've toned down the Ternion to only 2 or 3 points and am using more subtle skills. Vision of Death and Dark Convenant are very effective and far more fun. For instance, in Epic, Talos just stood there when hit with these spells and never even moved.
But how about this.... every player's game has their screen name first (like in Sacred) - then their character's name and it could include some abreviation for melee, mage, etc. Right now, there's no way to tell who's on that MP game using just the character's name. That would solve lots of problems like finding your friends and avoiding those who's playing style you don't like.

Lol. Has nothing to do with playing style. Unless you consider character classes a style.
I have kinda narrowed it down tho. If I join a game and see an oracle I just leave. No offence to anyone, but I seriously doubt anyone who plays with such a class as melee, you get 2 things.. lag, and no fun. Like volcanic orb, or whatever the fire spell that explodes and makes all those smaller fireballs bouncing, is like graphics lag from hell. I leave on that one too. The biggest issue though is really the lag. I can party with around 4-5 melee toons no sweat, but the second a freaking spell guy comes in, we all lag like hell. That there is the single first reason I want to avoid them. I can play with 5 ppl smooth as a babys arse, till someone comes in with all these spells. Then there is the other factor, of they kill entire mobs in 1 shot. I bet its a heck of alot of fun in SINGLE player to waste the game, but not if you are online. To reiterate the example, the 3 meleer's (myslef included) we were in the labrynth end of act 1, with this druid. No one typed anything, but we all did one thing in common. We tried to go other ways than the caster. If he was heading said way, the 3 of us all went another way. As I said, I did not know these ppl, they didn't know me, and no one even typed anything. But you could just sense that we wanted to get away from this person. It was nothing against them either. They were just ruining the fun is all. I am not bashing, or being biased here either. Its not about that at all. I believe the caster kind of caught on too. Like, he started not to cast, and let us fight. Now, this was kinda ok, as he was just standing there, but then next mob he would cast and they would all die. So we would wait till he ran on, and all head a different way. This was still with no typing, or any communication. It was I guess just a gup morale type thing. Now I realize half the fun for some in this type of game is to get the most powerful toon they can, and I like that aspect alot as well, and sympathize. However, It is just plain no fun. Sorry to the casters. Lastly, this is only for higher difficulties, epic+legend. I will party with a mage type in normal, as they aren't 1 hitters at that stage. |

Sounds like you need to upgrade and we all need Iron Lore to get with it on fixing the graphics engine. There's really no excuse for it running like crap even on high end systems. And about the casters, I find them fun to play because of the nifty effects and uber power. I like to aggro huge mobs and blast them. Cuz its cool how they fly around and all the items fly out plus the cool lighting effects, etc. But I never play online. Online games are getting rediculous, IMO, because of the vast number of cheaters and hackers there are. If this game isn't hacked yet, just wait a little while. Like Dark Age of Camelot...if you don't cheat like everybody else, your toast. To me thats lame.
